Description

A built-in loop sequencer with up to 16 steps allows you to record your performance on the keyboard as you play with the ability to store up to sixteen sequence patterns on the internal memory. In the event that there is any physical defect in the disk (storage device, etc.) on which the Licensed Program is supplied, Korg will exchange the defective disk with a non-defective disk of the same model at no charge, provided that you have notified Korg of the existence of such defect within 28 days from the date you have received the disk, and provided that Korg shall never be held liable to replace the disk or data in the event that the defect is attributed to accident, abuse, misuse or other such causes outside of Korg’s control. Being the oldest released version, this device proved inferior to the newer categories regarding performance and features. The core of the Volca Drum’s character, however, comes from its ‘Wave Guide’ resonator. This is set up as a global send effect, allow each layer to be sent to it by an independently controllable amount. The Wave Guide itself has three controls: Tune, for the pitch of the effect, Decay, controlling its length, and Body, which alters the timbral characteristics. There are two varieties of resonator available too, switchable between Tube and String styles. The results that can be achieved using this resonator sound fantastic, ranging from odd faux-reverb effects to pitched tonal stabs and spiralling, modulated decays. Korg provides no warranty in relation to any Third Party Software supplied and all warranties whether express or implied as to the condition, quality, performance, merchantability or fitness for purpose of the Third Party Software or any part of the same are (in so far as may be permitted by law) hereby excluded.

You can create and manipulate a huge range of sounds using the onboard simple yet extremely effective parameters. However, the device offers numerous cool features like chromatic sound sequencing. If you need more comparisons, consider watching the video below. In total, there are 16 patterns to populate and any number of them can be chained together to build a longer structure. The only proviso is that chains must be of consecutive patterns, but there’s nothing to stop you chaining all 16. I was already pretty convinced by the sequencer, even before exploring the delights of Korg’s Motion Sequencing.

Oh no! Why did I get blocked?

In general, I recommend choosing the Volca Drum if you want the highest sound quality and versatility. This category is the latest released and also the most modern one among the four product lines. The Volca Drum produces the most original and authentic sound quality with the digital drum machine sound engine. Combining the effects and multi-layered resonators, gives you a satisfying user experience.
