Description

While the secondary Elfriede plot adds interesting complications to the historical puzzle, it doesn't have quite as much verve. Lily swears she’ll never end up in another abusive home, but when Ryle starts to show all the same warning signs that her mother ignored, Lily learns just how hard it is to say goodbye. Despite the better option right in front of her, an unexpected complication forces Lily to cut ties with Atlas, confront Ryle, and try to end the cycle of abuse before it’s too late. The Golden Hour by Niki Smith | Goodreads The Golden Hour by Niki Smith | Goodreads

This book is gorgeously illustrated in Niki Smith's characteristic thin clean lines, with soft painterly backgrounds filling in the gold, brown, green and grey of Kansas. Those were particularly framed as dissing and derision worthy or just "lesser" core for causing that crying or loneliness, or whatever illness or trouble for our two heroines. But swallowing all of that (fiction indeed), the book itself, its author's "eyes" to how she created these two women leads! Plus, a historical fiction about The Duke and Duchess of Windsor sounded just the ticket for escapism.Once she is able to get into their social circle, Lulu soon realizes this royal couple are up to no good. I had read and enjoyed a book by this author awhile back and when I saw the gorgeous cover for this one, I immediately put it on my to be read list without even bothering to look at the synopsis.
