Our volunteer Penelope takes on the plank, excited to learn that this small addition to her fitness regime could wield great results. Michael takes a break to brew up a cup of green tea, warming up to its distinctive taste and its health benefits. Welcome to this post on Just One Thing: How simple changes can transform your life by Dr Michael Mosley. Michael Mosley (born 22 March 1957) is a British television journalist, producer and presenter who has worked for the BBC since 1985.

Based on the popular BBC podcast, Just One Thing, this book brings to life Dr Mosley's mission to find things you can introduce into your daily routine which will have a big impact on your mental and physical health. Simple things, with their scientific evidence explained easily by Dr Micheal Mosley, that can readily be incorporated into every day routines. I realise just how much I’ve taken away from this joyful little tome, so three cheers for MM for his work and health projects. About the Author: Dr Michael Mosley trained as a doctor before becoming a journalist and television presenter. For further information about your statutory rights, contact your local authority Trading Standards department or consumer advice centre (for example the Citizen's Advice Bureau if you are in the UK).

When we sit for prolonged periods, many of our body's functions go into sleep mode, including our metabolism! He divides the day into periods – morning, mid morning, lunch time, afternoon and evening, giving examples of things to try throughout the day.So what if you were told that eating chocolate helps your heart, that sunbathing boosts your immune system, singing can reduce inflammation, and your fanatical obsession of collecting houseplants is actually helping your productivity and brain power? Dr Michael Mosley is very easy to listen to and I've watched quite a few of his documentaries, however surprisingly, this is my first time reading any of his - many - books. Aids and Adaptations Aids and adaptations are an essential part of living well with chronic illness and disability.

During the winter months, here in the UK, days are short and there isn’t enough sunlight for most of us to make the vitamin D we need. A lot of the advice is common sense, but reading the science behind it is both interesting and motivating. One of my favourite quotes at the moment is " Your outcomes are a lagging measure of your habits" from Atomic Habits by James Cleary, and trying any of these 'things' from Just One Thing by Dr Michael Mosley will improve your health and wellbeing. He chats to experts, road tests all his tips and enlists some special guests to help you find that one small thing that could really make a difference to how you feel.I’ve even been known to dance around the living room, so I’m not sure this book has really taught me anything.

I recommend listening to this in small doses and coming back later to revisit any specific chapters that take your fancy or require a quick refresher. Based on the popular BBC podcast, Just One Thing , this book brings to life Dr Mosley's mission to unearth small, simple things you can introduce into your routine which will have a big impact on your mental and physical health. There’s plenty to have fun with here and the suggestions are easily incorporated into your everyday routine. It was easy to pick up when I had a spare 10 minutes or so and implement things that aren’t too daunting into my daily routine.

I think we all recognise that a sedentary lifestyle and sitting for prolonged periods is terrible for our health. I review books across a variety of genres, participate in a number of reading challenges and love running giveaways. Brush your teeth standing on one leg, do squats while you wait for the kettle to boil, that sort of malarkey. A topic I’m really interested in at the moment, really clever way at tackling habits and looking at improving mental health through more than ‘mindfulness’ which can be a bit inaccessible sometimes.
