The height adjustment literally could not be more simple – a one-handed squeeze-and-pull movement on the headrest, and you’ve got instant adjustability. Another slight negative is that I recently took all the upholstery off to wash thoroughly and it turned out the polystyrene insert in the headrest had come unglued from the plastic side. I was most excited about it because with 4 children between the ages of 1 and 11, it meant that I could use it for all of them from time to time.

I did have to sponge down the non-removable parts and it did take a few attempts to get rid of the sick though!The 5 point harness is secure and easy to fasten, and the seat itself holds both Max and Eliza in the correct seating position. The multi-height headrest and harness system has 10 positions and the fact that you can do it so easily with one hand is definitely appealing. Once you've done it a couple of times it's very quick to thread the seat belt through the back of the car seat and secure it safely in place with the extra safety latch.

The SlimFit R44 car seat has 4 total recline positions — 2 in rearward facing and 2 in forward facing. Compared to other seats we have tried even without the inserts the seat feels really comfortable and padded.

Machine washable seat pad too – it can be removed without removing the harness so it is super easy to keep the car seat clean from grubby little fingers (and when yogurt raisins are the current snack of choice, machine washable is essential). Here in the UK the law says you only need to rear face until 13kg although many European countries recommend that to rear face till 4 years old. One of my main frustrations with car seats that promise to be multi-group is all the faffing about with the harnesses and the headrests. Remove the lower seat pad to expose the harness storage door, then move the buckle strap to the rear slot.
