Description

Write a report about the solar system and the stars. What do you already know? What would you like to find out? Mathletics measuring work is still on line and LOADS of you have logged in to have a go! Well done all of you! I will be adding more to have a go at but whilst the others log in you could try some of the mathletics games. The word ‘around’ contains the sound ‘ou’. Ask your child to list as many words as they can containing the‘ou’sound. Select a number between 2 and 20. Make a poster showing how many different ways to make this number using addition, subtraction, multiplication etc. Ask your parent to help andblindfold you with a scarf or material. What can yousee now? Which sense are youusingnow?

Using your story map I want you to write the start of a you story. Don't forget to include a setting description and introduce your characters.

Investigate how they can find 1/2 of different amounts (even numbers only to start). Explain "We write this down as 1/2 or half. The whole number is shared equally into two parts. To find half we count 1 part that is why it is 1/2" You can develop this further by looking at quarters- 4 parts counting 1 part. Its bye bye to fractions for a bit (some of you will be pleased to know) and onto measure. yay! You can start of by using items from the house. Which things are longer and which things are shorter? How many tins of beans high are you? Your younger brother? How many high is Mum or Nan? You will need a grid each, and two dice, and colouring pencils. Youngest player starts. On your turn, throw the 2 dice. Then colour in a rectangle using the numbers on the dice for the lengths of its sides. Fill your numbers in in the column on the right as a multiplication. You can colour your rectangle wherever you like on the grid as long as there is space. If you don’t have space, you miss a turn.

There is something nostalgic and poignant in David Litchfield’s storytelling. We don’t know why Heather is quite so desperate to be discovered by aliens and taken into space. Yet her vigil is shown to us in sequences as one long night, followed by other long nights, as she flashes her torchlight into the sky longing for an other worldly response. Flags- Look at flags from around the world with your child. Discuss which are your child’s favourites and why? Ask your child to recreate their favourite; this could be through drawing, collaging etc. There should be more than one paragraph and you should use full stops. There should also be some noun phrases to describe the setting/characters (curlybrown hair, beautiful golden throne)Remarkable Routines- Can your child create their very own simple routine, just like a gymnast, dancer or synchronised swimmer? A range of openers: Dad decided to..... Just then, Next, Then, When, If, While, At that moment, In the morning, etc. I have set maths challenges using Mathletics today as I wanted you to have access to measuring lessons that wouldn't necessarily need a ruler. These activities will be ongoing and have been set for a week. I will still post more maths activities here for those of you who cannot access Mathletics but I do not expect you to do both.
