McWeeny, Drew (June 30, 2012). "Review: Oliver Stone turns Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, and Blake Lively into 'Savages' ". HitFix . Retrieved August 24, 2012. There are very few books that I would re-read. I have reread this one and found it even more interesting than the first time. I'm sure, in a few years, I will do a third read. Oddly enough, they both believe in karma- what goes around comes around-except with Chon it comes around in a freaking hurry and usually with ill intent. Conran managed to build in one lesbian scene, no doubt for the pleasure of the voyeurs among her readers. I wouldn't have missed it if it hadn't been there. While their husbands visit a copper mine, the women explore the beautiful coast by luxury yacht. On the return trip, the yacht breaks down and they are forced to finish the journey on foot. But as they near the hotel, their pleasure trip becomes a nightmare.

Don Winslow wrote his masterpiece of a prequel to Savages. O, Chon, and Ben are an inseparable trio, something we learned in Savages. Any details I thought were missing from Savages, exists in this book. These two need to go together because any place that Savages fell short, Kings of Cool filled it in. Rachel Saint was the sister of one of the speared missionaries, and she continued to pursue his work. One of her first native converts, Toña, became a preacher. He attempted to convince the Huaorani that their traditional culture, everything they knew, was totally wrong. Enqueri said that Toña “brought with him an evil so strong that it killed a child.” To avenge this misfortune, he was killed with seven spears. This quote : "Sad fact of Life - Smart people sometimes get stupid, but stupid people never get smart. Never. Ever." (p. 19)"

Radish, Christina (July 4, 2012). "Taylor Kitsch Talks SAVAGES, Working with Oliver Stone and John Travolta, Filming Sex Scenes and Avoiding Green Screens". Collider . Retrieved August 25, 2012. By August 2011, the film was shooting in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Times reported: "The estate's indoor pool was converted into a massive hydroponic marijuana farm for the film's production, with about 300 high-octane pot plants jamming the covert nursery." [6] Production designer Tomas Voth said: "I wanted to use real plants and had them all ready to go, but it was some legal thing. Universal told us to use fakes." [6] The sex scenes were filmed during the first three days. [7] The film entered post-production in October 2011. Stone personally categorized it as a romantic action thriller. [8] Casting [ edit ] The best group biography of the year – of many years, in fact – is Sarah Watling’s Noble Savages, the story of the four Olivier sisters... Their mother was the model for Tess of the D’Urbevilles, their joint best friend was Rupert Brooke, and they had, said Virginia Woolf, strange glass eyes which they took out at night. But this is not why they are interesting. After feral childhoods in Surrey, where their parents lived in a Fabian utopia, each woman struggled with postwar realities: insanity, grief, poverty, catastrophic marriages. Elegantly structured in “seven fragments”, Watling’s book gives us a riveting drama that begins as pastoral comedy and ends as tragedy. Frances Wilson, New Statesman, Books of the Year There was much more time and detail spent on Isabel, particularly her obsession with being organized and prepared. I had found that part very interesting.

Thomas King wrote in The Truth About Stories (published in 2005, some 10 years after Kane’s novel):With its present-tense verbs, high-octane cinematic scenes, and bite-sized chapters, the writing is as vivid as a lightning storm. The year is 2005, and we meet the younger versions of the inseparable best buds: Laguna Beach nice guy drug dealers Chon and John and their platonic best girl, O, short for Ophelia. (Think Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, and schoolteacher Etta Place). Así que si quieres sumergirte en un tinglado familiar tipo Falcon Crest, pero con drogas, en vez de viñedos, éste es tu libro. Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast as Ophelia but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. [9] Other actresses considered to replace Lawrence included Amber Heard, Olivia Wilde, Lindsay Lohan, Teresa Palmer, and Abbie Cornish. [10] In April 2011, it was reported that Blake Lively had been cast as Ophelia. [11] Before casting Taylor Kitsch in the film, Oliver Stone asked director Peter Berg to show him 30 minutes of Kitsch's work in Battleship to see how he was as a leading man, and after seeing that footage, he cast him. [12] Trevor Donovan originally auditioned for a role that was cut but after seeing Donovan's tape, Stone specifically wrote him a part that was not in the book. [13] Uma Thurman played Ophelia's mother, Paqu, but her scenes were cut due to time constraints. [14] Release [ edit ] José Miguel Goldáraz was a Spanish priest who had spent 20 years in South America. By and by, he lost interest in soul saving, and became an activist. He had no doubt that the natives would kill oil workers in defense of their land. “When the Huaorani kill, there is a spiritual discipline to it. Americans kill without knowing they are doing it. You don’t want to know you are doing it. And yet you are going to destroy an entire way of life. So you tell me: Who are the savages?” Kaufman, Amy (July 5, 2012). " 'Katy Perry,' 'Savages' will get caught in 'Spider-Man's' web". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved August 24, 2012.

Poor River is grieving and trying to raise Cody while dealing with the society and how to get her revenge. Will she get it? Dated but entertaining survival adventure novel from 1987. The story has a feminist slant, as it shows how five pampered wives learn to survive on a remote tropical island on their own. A bloody military takeover turns their island vacation deadly, and they must hide in the jungle while planning a way to escape the island unseen. They do get some survival training from the resort's boat captain, but soon each woman must push herself to do things she never thought she was able to do.
