When I worked at Hermès, Eau des Merveilles was suchan explosion of joyfor me. As a result, if I, and only I, had decided on the fragrance to be released, our fragrance could have resulted in something similar to Eau des Merveilles. Which I don'twant.

MARC-ANTOINE: Igor, I had it all wrong when it comes to Encelade.I thought I was creating a fragrance for intellectuals, but in Europe... teenagersbuyit! On the French, British, and German markets, it is sold on par with Ganymede. Of course, perfume connoisseurs also appreciate it, but I am surprised that young men and women perceive Enceladeas an absolutelyinnovative fragrance and choose itas their "signaturescent." MARC-ANTOINE:I would like to put Ganymede Extrait aside for a moment and talk about anotherfragrance Iam very proud of, Encelade.

Some perfumes get better with time and use though as they macerate, so it's not impossible that this will change as well. If it does, I will update it with a new score. The hype however could kill it. As it could eventually become one of those scents that often disappoint when sampled or (amazingly) blind bought as if you are not fully able to realise the flinty cool steely opening it’s going to disarm you, if you’re expecting or used to a citrus and ambroxan or ISO E Super introduction.

I will not agree with previous reviewers that this is a 1 to 1 copy of Ganymede, even though its similar. At first spray this is not nearly as good as Ganymede (which is fine because of the price difference obviously), and is instead actually quite off-putting (less fun). It actually smells spicy, smoky and dense instead of mineral (mineralistic?) and airy right when I spray it. Building on this early success Maison Marc-Antoine Barrois continued to delight the fragrance world with his second creation - Ganymede.
