I too love SMB3. I think I even prefer it to Super Mario World, although both are obviously classics. And yeah, Mario 64 just completely reinvented and blew away everything at the time of its reveal at the Shoshinkai Show in 1995. Don't know if you remember the show Bad Influence on UK TV in the 90s? I was recently speaking to Violet Berlin about her memory of going to that show and seeing it revealed for the first time and how she felt like everything in the industry changed at that moment. Her footage of it was the first time I saw the game and I had taped it on VHS. Between that moment and 1997 when the console finally released in the UK I rewatched that tape so many times it literally wore out! hahah I'm glad Generations is in your Steam library, that would be my #1 recomendation anyway. As I said, the 3d bits are better than the 2d. But its overall the best so far. The fact you've played and enjoyed Transformed is great! It really needs a rerelease on Switch! lol. Finally, if you still have a DS I do recommend Sonic Rush 1 and 2. It’s a great 2D Sonic game and worth your time if you can get your hands on it. 2 of my favorite games when I was younger. Hope you enjoy getting to play more Sonic!

MARl0 @BenoitRen Re: th e blurry pixesl. I agree this is very frustrating, especially because of teh context that the retro engine itself was designed from the ground up to have super crisp pixels, and its only Sega's (very basic, not great) menu system thats ruining it. I bought the original release on PC and to begin with, the pixels were unforgivably fuzzy... but thats since been fixed with a fan mod. Basically, yes, Sonic Generations on Series X and Windows is king. Sonic Frontiers being polished and taken care of is as promising as unusual. I can't believe we finally reached the point when both Sonic 2D and 3D games are solid 😂. I also liked Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure on Nintendo DS. When I played them on Nintendo DS Lite that had much better lighting than the original it was like, Oh Dad, look at this!

Banjo- Right now (because I am in a Sonic mood and can't sleep) I'm reworking my "retro engine" style platforming engine into something that I can release as an open source free engine for people who want to make fan games... and/or a standalone fangame that people will be able to make their own levels and mods for... like Mario Maker, but for Sonic. a b Lane, Gavin (June 21, 2022). Banjo- haha I was only kidding, but yes you must buy all my games otherwise we can't be friends! lol Sonic Origins has some puzzling issues and omissions that you wouldn't expect in a retro compilation of this caliber. There's no save-state/reload functionality, nor are there any screen filters that can help smooth the pixels into a nice CRT-like look. There is one "anti-aliasing" screen option that makes the screen look like it's been smeared with petroleum jelly, but that's it. Banjo- Hey no problem! Glad you found it interesting, if you can't tell I'm a complete nerd for this kinda stuff. I recently watched the Gtv documentary on Kirby's Adventure - I remember thats the first NES game I saw in a shop kiosk that "wow'ed" me - and its amazing just how far it was pushing the system past what it was designed for. With Origins, sure, as a fanboy, theres a million things I could complain about. But its also the best way to play some of my favourite games, and its opening them up to a new audience in a way that is presented well enough to win over new fans like yoruself. And playable Amy in classic Sonic is something I've wanted since 1993. So do I concentrate on the fact I don't like the new music or they didn't include a few roms of games that I already have sat on my hard drive and a million ways to play them... or do I celebrate with joy the fact that people are saying nice things about Sonic again? Original article [Thu 23rd Mar, 2023 10:45 GMT]: An updated version of Sonic Origins — titled Sonic Origins Plus — is reportedly coming to Switch in June 2023. This is according to a report from ComicBook.com which has since been deleted, but not before other outlets such as VGC and GoNintendo spotted it. a b c d McWhertor, Michael (April 20, 2022). "Sega's Sonic Origins retro collection coming this June". Polygon. Archived from the original on April 21, 2022 . Retrieved April 20, 2022. Gamecuber Thank you! Yes, I frequent retro conventions in the UK and am irl friends with many well known collectors and youtubers and the story is always the same. in the 80s literally no-one owned a NES. Most people's first console was either a Master System, or a Megadrive. Gameboys were common, as you said, but the SNES only became viable after Street Fighter 2, but was still a distinct third behind Megadrive and Amiga owners for 16bit games. The only people in the UK I meet who owned a NES are a little younger than me, and were kids in the 90s and got one as a budget system. Yosti @Andy_C444 In life, sometimes to my detriment, I always try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt and treat people kindly. I'm neurodiverse and I know all about being worried you aren't being understood so you overcompensate by typing too much. Hell I'm doing it now. I also understand being super passionate about a game, character, series etc. and feeling it personally when people talk about it online. I'd never judge someone for that, I do it all the time, especially in relation to classic Sonic stuff - it's what made me fall in love with gaming so I totally get it.
