The Tropos is a perfect bag for all kinds of trips, including hiking and commuting. It’s pretty durable, and it’s large yet lightweight enough not to tire you out. Not to mention, its laptop compartment is convenient, so you can carry everything you have in one bag instead of taking a separate sleeve. Polarise, disturb, or please. Stand out or blend in? Modern mountain bikes are full of new technologies and innovations, yet many of them look very similar, or are even hard to distinguish at first glance. The design plays a decisive role in this in many respects. What’s going on here? The Nebula is better for everyday use, and the Tropos is better for trips. This bag will work well in other situations as well, including outdoor adventures and city jaunts.

Using the Nebula, you’ll be able to collect your laptop, cards, books, cables, and tablet in one place, so your hands always stay free.If you’re not filling the bag to its brim, you can always use the compression straps to shrink it. Then, expand it again when you want to fill it. This feature comes incredibly in handy during trips. Given I’ve gone somewhat in depth about my experience with the Osprey Tropos while speaking about the various features above, I’ll focus here on what I think are the pros and cons of this bag. As we mentioned earlier, if you decide to keep your laptop inside the sleeve in the main compartment, you can use this space to store a hydration bladder. You can feed the hose through an opening at the top and run it along with the shoulder straps for hands-free hydration while you’re walking, hiking, or exploring. Osprey meant the Tropos for urban use; that’s why it’s designed with cushioning to protect laptops and other screen devices inside. Its laptop compartment is also highly convenient, but we’ll get into that later. At the top of these straps are load lifters you can adjust to pull the bag closer to your body for a more comfortable carry. These are especially nice on a larger bag like this one, as 34L can get heavy after a while.What you do have, though, is a built-in whistle you can blow into to alert anyone close by in an emergency. This whistle is a thoughtful integration considering the bag’s primarily outdoor use case, especially when you’re in a situation that you may not be able to reach your phone to call for help. As for the sternum strap, it’s pretty simple. It attaches to a rail system on the shoulder straps so you can easily glide it up and down to wherever it feels most comfortable. Again, no elastic keepers, so you’ll have to deal with some dangling. The Tropos has upper and lower compression straps, which are designed to horizontally loosen or tighten the bag and keep the contents snug. The upper straps, however, get in the way of using the zippers. For a student who is transferring things into and out of her bag all day, this could really become an annoyance.
