If you are looking for a serious book or epic 10 book fantasy then this isn't for you. As of yet there are 4 books (3 narrated) out so far, but having read only book 1, I don't see how it will go past 5 (and hopefully won't). Blood splattered King Wotan’s body, as Demonling Victor’s scythe cut through his valkyrie’s flesh, gorging itself on her soul. Final Boss: Invoked by the System on those who reach level 99 and enter Valhalla, making them fight another aspiring god before they can open the doors. Vainqueur and Mell Odieuse end up being this to each other, as do Victor and Furibon. For the first half of the story there is little threat to Vainqueur with parts later feeling less tense (because he is a huge freaking dragon) than other stories. This worked really well for me and my current mood, but might not float your boat.

Critical health! Critical health! HP and SP critically low! [ Bravo Bull] activated! Your strength increased! Critical health! And Vainqueur did, navigating through clouds of smoke and beyond the island, just as the volcano exploded behind them. Also, Your Majesty burned the local woods coming here!” minion Victor shouted to the Marquise. “On request of the Count of Provencal!” Beforehand, Vainqueur would have gloated, spoke to the food, boasted about his inevitable victory. But now, he only had roars to offer. If Wotan would not rest until he died, then the dragon too would fight to the end. Necromancy III]: You can now learn and use Necromancy spells up to tier three. This replaces Necromancy II.

Victor Dalton

Victory Roar]: Technique, 30 SP. You can unleash a mighty roar lowering the Strength of every enemy within earshot by one stage. The fairy responded by changing his melody from gloomy to violently aggressive, and the golem began to swing its blade with maniacal fury. Vainqueur barely had the time to leap to the side, the machine’s claymore smashing the hammer manling into a bloody puddle.

I really liked hearing a story that was from multiple points of view. The dragon's POV was the most interesting. The author put a lot of thought into how a dragon would think and act. The characters are well developed and have arc. Each chapter has them growing and developing. There are a lot of characters but they enter the story in a well balanced progression.I had to do it, minion,” Vainqueur told his friend, who looked at the statue in horror—horror at her treachery. “They lusted for my gold with their greedy eyes, then tried to turn me into treasure… after I gave them a minion job! Do you know the unemployment rate among your kind, Manling Victor? You do not, and you do not want to know. While I achieved full employment!” For it was true that Vainqueur had changed a little. Some of his scales had turned golden, empowering by his newfound [Curse of Greed]. He also carried a long, golden axe in his hand. His eyes must have shone with the glitter of gold. As for the axe? He had found it laying around. The dragon had no idea why, but he had the compulsion to take it with him. Still, just like Ogron’s weapon the past year, it was a constant struggle for the dragon to wield it within his claws. I wish there was another place where to hide,” Allison said, looking traumatized. “But Your Majesty took us by surprise.”

Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of this audiobook free of charge in exchange for an honest, unbiased review. His amazing cape floating to the howling wind, Vainqueur glanced at the skies, his manling at his side. His kindred had been set free, the last adventurer chained for trial, and the enemy routed. Yet, he couldn’t rejoice. And that’s just the beginning. The relationship between Victor and Vainqueur is hilarious as is Vainqueur’s endless narcissism. The author has clearly read plenty of RR stuff and the things that have inspired a lot of the authors there. Iseikai, other Japanese entertainment, Lovecraft, “chosen one” tropes, fantasy in general...all get some good riffing. I had a blast reading this. What the—?” Insect Cornelia was at a loss of words before Vainqueur’s fabulous fighting pose. “Is that a boxing stance?!” Half the cattle in my marquisate?” the catkin asked with her shrill, insolent voice. “This is preposterous!”

The castle overflowed with the smell of cats and felines, including lions, tigers, and even a sphinx, according to Vainqueur’s nose. A flag representing a cat with boots stood at the summit of the tower, much to the dragon’s amusement.
