Version 23 was one of the biggest updates in the history of Nike so it makes sense that version 24 is one of the smallest updates. It maintains the same midsole and outsole as last year’s version but it gets a new upper. If one was asked to describe how the Nike Structures of days gone by felt, the adjectives would be along the lines of firm, stiff and stable.

The result is a more consistent ride than the Pegasus and Vomero because CMP 010 foam surrounds the airbag in the forefoot whereas the forefoot of the Pegasus/Vomero feels much firmer than the rearfoot so the ride feels inconsistent. I stopped and retie my shoes thinking it was the laces being loose. I took off again but the heel was still loose and my midfoot hurt because the shoes were tied too tight. That was my thought when I put the Structure 24 on for the first time. I wonder if shoe companies make minimal, upper-only updates to shoes so that it gives them more time to work on the next version. This was such a pleasant surprise for me. Nike uses a dual-density midsole with Phylon and Cushlon materials to create what they call Dynamic Support. The densities of the lateral and the medial sides are the same but the wall of the medial side is just much higher. Inward rolling of the foot is controlled by making the medial side more cushioned than the lateral side.I assumed that the shoe would soften and return more energy as it broke in. However, this was not something I noticed, and instead the double digit runs I did in these left my feet and legs feeling more tired. Over time, midsole technologies advanced. Compression-moulded EVA and polyurethane midsole were invented which were a lot more durable. Running shoes became much more stable and the medial sides of the shoes stopped flattening out. The Nike React Infinity Run is of medium width in the toe box but they do go slimmer towards the midfoot area. React Infinity Run Weight and Drop

It’s one of the only Nike trainers to use CMP 010 foam in its midsole which I prefer to the more popular React foam. It’s an EVA foam which feels softer and more spongy than dense, rubbery React foam. Remember when Nike led us to believe that the Structure was being discontinued because they compared the React Infinity Run to it and said that the React Infinity Run caused runners fewer injuries than the Structure 22? If you were looking forward to a similar shoe to the Structure 22, you will be bitterly disappointed in the new Structure 23. Widened forefoot midsole and outsole. This provides extra stability and reduces lateral roll which may cause a rolled ankle. This new shape is very noticeable from above. (the image below shows what I mean)I found the Structure 23 to be a really warm shoe. All the padding allows the upper to soak up sweat so on long runs, the shoe gets heavier. It’s definitely more suited to cooler climates. I used my Structure 24 for mainly easy, middle distance runs which is what it feels most comfortable doing although it is capable of slightly faster efforts. The best thing about the Structure 24 is that it doesn’t feel like a firm, stiff stability trainer that pokes your arch. It’s a comfortable, stable and versatile trainer which can handle most runs. Nike has yet to specify which foam they use in the Structure 23. On the midsole is written “CMP 010”. A new foam maybe? To me, it feels very similar to the Lunarlon that was used on the Vomero 10-13. The Structure 19 and the Structures before the 19 had prominent medial posts and a “poking in the arch” sensation which made it unbearable for many neutral runners and even some overpronators to wear. Initially, I felt the midsole was on the firm side but satisfactory. After putting over 100 miles in them, I can honestly say they just get better with age.

On the medial side, the midsole is built up more than on the lateral side so there is a noticeable level of under-arch support without the firm poking sensational. Another change they made to the upper the location of the laces. They moved them up farther up the shoe. The was done in hopes to allow the forefoot to spread out in a natural way while you run.Good question! Although there’s a good amount of cushioning in the Infinity React Run the 9mm drop feels lower than what it is, hence forcing less of an agressive forward-leaning stance, and as a reult putting less weight onto your knees. I’d definitely recommend trying them as they are designed to reduce the chance of injuries. The Structure 23 is Nike’s version of the Ultra Boost ST: high levels of cushioning with a built up medial side.

The Nike Zoom Structure’s sole unit was completely redesigned between the 19th and 20th edition, and hasn’t been touched since. They still give that support, but the comfort quotient just gets better and better. The performance of these shoes and the fact that Nike develops all their foams in the house has me believing in Nike again. Upper - no one does it better than Nike Overall, the Nike Zoom Structure was a disappointment. I had my hopes up for a new brand and a brand that recently has been on the feet of so many championship runners. Upon opening the box, I was extremely impressed with the colorway and design of the shoe. The navy blue mixes well with the orange-peel swoosh and the crimson flash heel.
