Handwriting is taught discretely using the RWI scheme in Fairytale Phase and then through a cursive script model when appropriate. This is practised at least 3x weekly until children are able to join fluently. The Write Stuff provides a balance of narrative, non-fiction and poetry writing throughout each term. Impact Model section – the teacher close models a sentence that outlines clear writing features and techniques. The FANTASTICs system, which is also used in the teaching of reading,allows children to identify the nine elements that all text types are comprised of. When pupils are familiar with these nine elements, they are able to ensure that they are incorporated into their writing. The FANTASTICs help children to sharpen their understanding of their own and others’ writing by encouraging them to be observant and reflective. The research of Jane Considine (The Write Stuff) was a development initiative in 2018, to enhance current provision and practice. The focus remains on a love of story, enrichment and language. Children are immersed in a key text, revealing plot points one at a time through the 'slow reveal'to maintain the excitement of revealing the story. This story forms the basis of the wider project and curriculum enrichment. We add clarity to the mechanics of the teaching of writing. TOOLS - The GRAMMARISTICS. The grammar rules of our language system and an accessible way to target weaknesses in pupils grammatical and linguistic structures. Edit Type 3: This is when a writer wants to add more sentences to develop an idea further. For this the children are shown how to use ‘editing flaps’.

Training Space Events - The Training Space

IDEAS - The FANTASTICs uses a child friendly acronym to represent the nine idea lenses through which children can craft their ideas. The poster is perfect for working walls to add pupil, and author, examples of sentence types and structures, e.g. a complex/multi-clause sentence, a simile sentence or a feeling sentence. The poster is organised into three tiers to match the ‘Three Zones of Writing’; the FANTASTICs, the GRAMMARISTICs and the BOOMTASTICs. Many teachers find this poster particularly useful to provide guidance for greater depth. Pupils who are familiar with this poster find that it reminds them of the wealth of ways they can showcase flair and structures independently during their ‘Deepen the Moment’ aspects of writing. Handwriting is a basic skill that influences the quality of work throughout the curriculum. At the end of Key Stage 2 all pupils should have the ability to produce fluent, legible and, eventually, speedy joined-up handwriting, and to understand the different forms of handwriting used for different purposes.

The Large Writing Rainbow symbols are a set of 27 brightly coloured classroom resources, measuring 28.5 cm in diameter, that mirror the writing lenses found on Jane Considine’s Writing Rainbow. By using these lenses, teachers can focus on a particular aspect of the Writing Rainbow. Pupils can then incorporate that lens in their planning and writing activities during the lesson. This allows them to become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. Spelling is taught through a range of strategies including fun activities and games to embed the spelling rules and list taught for that year group. These strategies include Battleships, The Spelling Web, Scrabble, Memory Challenge, Spelling Search and Crosswords. Key Stage Spelling Lists
