Having to rush to the console and whack a button (especially if a game had an inventory menu when paused) was a major hassle that could have been easily rectified. I got lucky, I guess, in that the system set I bought had 2 controllers that worked absolutely perfectly. I generally play SMS games on my Genesis, so I usually just use a 3-button Genesis pad, like so many others in this thread. Up until now the only way to install the pause button into the controller was to do a messy deadbug install with no real way of making sure the switch hole was positioned well. Button also doubles as a START button, meaning it is only possible to pause a game by pressing the pause button on the console itself.

I can’t believe how cheap this kit is either, because it’s clearly good quality, and made by someone who loves the retro gaming hobby. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I found a Sega Genesis controller to be preferable (particularly ones that had a built in turbo feature), yet even that was not as enjoyable, and I didn’t like the mapping of the buttons to B and C rather than A and B. The D-Pad has a hole in the centre which allows for a small "thumbstick" to be inserted (much like Sega's earlier consoles).

Many games play better with the Master System pad than they do with Genesis pads, such as The Ninja, or any game where jump is Up on the d-pad.Like any other old controller, the SEGA Master System gamepad can be worn over time, which causes faults such as non-responsive buttons, or directions on the d-pad to stop working. Much like the Turbografx-16 controller, the Honey Bee lets you set Turbo or Auto fire features without the need of the cumbersome ‘Rapid Fire’ attachment piece that was originally released for the Master System. There are three versions of the kit available, quick solder boards for SEGA 315-5237 and SEGA 315-5216 chips, and a standard free mounting version.
