The voices in a Yamaha DX7 all originate from two chips - the YM21280 and an envelope generator (YM21290).

Clearly you don't want to lose all the panning stuff the synth can do, which requires stereo filters, but that's costly. Also love seeing the waveform morph in real time, though I guess that's only so useful in practice, maybe the screen real estate has more practical uses at times, but sure looks nice doing that. The tonal qualities of each are rich, varied and best experienced by trying them out while watching the oscilloscope. This wasn't a feature I'd met before but it's a cracker, and at its extremes, is capable of further variations on the theme of 'nasty and noisy'. Excellent product for sound designers and it is easy to study the sounds created by the manufacturer. If people can't hack pressing 2 buttons on a synth this deep and complex then I don't know what to suggest haha.

Having a dedicated group of template patches (bank F or something so it doesn't wipe anyone's user patches? It was clearly designed by someone who knows synthesizers and uses them, and wanted to build something they would enjoy to use.But no matter the reason, the result is the same: this is an astonishingly beautiful-sounding synthesizer. I mean 5 LFOs (which become 10 thanks to the positive only out) 5 ENV (that are loopable) a huge mod matrix. It's genius and makes editing super fast, a rare feat for a mod matrix, but there's no way to know this from the front panel alone.

Unlike the Roland Jupiter-Xm, which is similarly deep but not particularly intuitive, we hardly had to reach for the manual at all when exploring the Hydrasynth. You would generally be requested to enter the supplied activation code to activate the software and allow you to use the software on your specified computer or laptop. It’s not a huge amount of money to spend on a great synth…but since the engines are absolutely identical in those two…it is going to come down to build quality and most importantly FEEL…I would definitely try to get my hands on them first. There's a main level with dedicated reverb and delay, another effects slot before this and after this. Using OLED screens, high-resolution encoders with LED rings, and 8 buttons, this section is designed to give you good feedback on what is going on.

While the Hydrasynth can certainly do cold—it’s got both wave scanning and FM in its arsenal—this is no icebox. The Hydrasynth comes with 2x Pre-Set Banks of 128x Sounds each; 5x Banks with a total capacity of 640x Sounds available.Their polyphonic pressure implementation is pretty thorough, and includes user tailoring of parameters such as delay, onset time, fade and release, to reduce bounce, jitter and so on. The Hydrasynth is a seriously impressive opening salvo from a fledgling company; hopefully it heralds a more expressive future for synthesis. Introducing the vastly powerful ‘Hydrasynth’ Desktop 8-voice polyphonic wave morphing synthesizer from ASM. This mighty instrument, in the hands of virtuosos such as Vangelis, proved that synthesizers really could be responsive, expressive musical instruments after all. In a sense, it's good - it just means that the ball is back in the artist's court to make mindblowing stuff.
