Tactical lights need to be durable, reliable, and intuitive to operate. Unlike EDC lights, tactical lights tend to have brighter, more focused beams; a strobe function; and, in some cases, a strike bezel. The bezel is the ring that protects the lens against impact. In some flashlight designs, the head of the LED housing extends forward to perform the same function. A strike bezel features aggressively machined edges or cutting points, allowing you to use your light as a weapon or glass breaker in an emergency.

An LED indicator inside the switch will go red to indicate charging is in progress and will turn green once charging is complete. The charging time for the included 21700 5000 mAh capacity battery is approximately 4 hours. Always replace the dust cover after charging to maintain the dust ingress protection. When charging is complete, this LED turns green. For my heat and runtime, I tested with the supplied Fenix 5000mAh battery, on my Texas Ace Lumen tube. Turbo starts out here a the claimed lumens but by 1 minute it’s stepped down to about 750 lumens because the heat was up to about 43C. It increases the output some in the next 20 minutes as heat dissipates, but the light has a substantial drop at about 2:10:00, then again at 3:20:00, and once more at 4:30:00, where it runs at it’s the lowest output for many more hours. Total runtime was right around 8 hours, and the light does flash in the last hour of use to indicate it’s the battery is low.

While both lights will serve their intended purpose, the LR80R is the superior choice. In Conclusion The knurling on this light is a series of straight, shallow grooves around the light, broken by five flats with an approximately 1/8 groove running lengthwise along the body. The PD36R includes on-board charging, and impressively it’s via USB-C. A USB to USB-C cable is included. Here’s the test light with the venerable Convoy S2+. Mine’s a custom “baked” edition Nichia 219b triple. A very nice 18650 light.

The Fenix PD36R flashlight is a very feature-rich 21700 light. It has USB-C charging, dual switches, and other cool features. Read on!I charged the included 5000mAh battery (Rated at 4870mAh in my testing) from LVP at 3.044V to Full at 4.227V in 4:13:00. The charging speed starts off slow for the first few minutes, then increase significantly with a peak of 2.5A before slowly declining. The total charge time was 4:10:00. One thing that was concerning was that the terminating voltage was slightly too high. Not sure if this was my multimeter or maybe due to the prototype nature of my light. When fully charged the side LED indicator goes from Red to Blue.

What is even more exciting is the 2.9 hours you get with a mind-blowing 1600 lumens. These extended runtimes are perfect for anyone that uses their flashlight for work, such as home inspectors or police officers. 21700 Battery With Fenix build quality, extreme performance and ergonomic operation, PD36R Pro has what it takes for operation in tough environments! This is an ideal torch for Tactical Operations at the highest level, Police and other emergency services use.
