I am the author-illustrator of funny picture books for kids, including the interactive book, Animals Go Vroom!. As an illustrator, I revel in creating jokes and storylines in the pictures that kids can follow along with by themselves. And as a mother of two small children myself, I know first-hand the magical experience of reading books with toddlers that keep them guessing and giggling along the way. Joanna becomes all-consumed by finding out what happened to the little girl because of a secret she is hiding. The story progresses seamlessly between her narrative in 2018 and an omnipresent narrator in 1985. So here we have Maggie in prison writing her version of all that has happened to her since the death of her first husband and what a tale it turns out to be. the emotionally resonant ending is beautifully done. i love that justin uses his puzzle piece to self-soothe throughout the book, but he has to give it up to save his friends. his friends ultimately provide more comfort than this symbol of his mom. and letting go of his mom is painful, but he knows it's what he has to do. The only problem now is I’ll have to wait for Mara’s next release but the good news is she’s signed a deal with Transworld for two more books!

i especially enjoyed the first half of the book, when the kids are riding around town on their bikes and investigating the hide and seek mystery. it's big classic ET vibes, and i love that they're so young and yet they have so much agency. Reading this book you are dropped into the tangled lives of the people in this community. You join Joanna on her hunt for the truth and see how rumours destroyed lives. Everyone claims to know their neighbours, but the truth is buried somewhere among the rumours and suspicion. You often wonder if the truth will ever surface. This lyrical text, narrated to a young girl named Amani by her father, follows her as she plays an evening game of hide-and-seek with friends at her apartment complex. The moon's glow helps Amani find the last hidden child, and seems almost like a partner to her in her game, as well as a spotlight pointing out her beauty and strength. Alongside the tension you could cut with a knife and those whiplash inducing plot twists the book is full of characters that are relatable. Some you will see in yourself, others are that annoying neighbour a few doors over that never smiles, remember that family down the road that seem to have it all or even that cluster of snotty Mummies at the school gates. We all know these characters, whether we love or hate them, it becomes ridiculously hard not to become invested in them. Let me tell ya'll something. Hide and Seeker is that girl, will always be that girl and could never not be that girl okay! This book was AMAZING.Jumping between time periods, Mara seamlessly ties the various timelines of the story together perfectly. She isn’t afraid to delve into some very dark topics in her books and Hide and Seek is no exception. I never saw the ending coming and her ability to make me as a parent think about what it would be like to lose my child was truly terrifying. Any parent will feel their stomach drop when the story unfolds before their eyes! This is the first middle grade I’ve ever read, and while I enjoyed this story I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was a little too old to be reading this? I think I would’ve enjoyed this a ton though in elementary school or middle school. Overall, many people may enjoy this book, it just was not for me due to subject matter that I don't care to read.

p265: She is not as sweet as her voice, as alluring as her melodies, as compassionate ate as her lyrics. Shortly after Joanna, her husband and three children move into a new house in a mature, middle class estate in Dublin, Joanna discovers that the house was the former home of Lily Murphy. Lily disappeared when she was three years old during a neighbourhood game of Hide and Seek and was never found.Fox, bear and owl play hide and seek. Where could owl be? Is he beside the slide? No, he’s in the tube slide! Where is bear? Is he in front of the climbing wall? No, he’s behind the climbing wall. This is a cute and gentle introduction to prepositions, perfect for toddler - preschool age. The three friends enjoy one another’s company and share hugs afterward. The illustrations are warm and endearing. When I started this book the last thing I though would happen was that I would give it 4 stars but believe me it’s worth every one of them. We follow multiple different perspectives as the contest begins and a Hunger Games-type vibe falls over the narrative. I had been eagerly awaiting this book, and unfortunately for me, it was not the book I was expecting. This novel will have widespread appeal, but it employs a genre/trope that I don't like and so I was disappointed once I got midway through and figured out what was going on. Spoilers (but not major ones) below: This is not my kind of thing. Most of the story is the biography of Maggie Bradford, the singer, starting from her miserable first marriage, then her later years. This part has first person narration which I generally don't like in my books and I don't like it here too. Another huge part of the book is the biography of Will Shephard, the famous football player and the second husband of Maggie. This part is even harder to read since Will has a very disturbing character and personality.

Personalized Dragon Story Book - Kids , Christening, Baptism, New baby and baby birthday, Christmas Eve Box Fillers, Ideas Hence why despite recieving my advanced reading copy at 9am after an 11 hour night shift, I sat in bed and got through about 50% of the book in one sitting. I woke with my kindle slapped on my face wondering what just happened and where the hell was Lily. This book I can see being good for some people, however this is one book that I can actually say I feel as though I wasted my time reading it. SH merasa kasihan dengan hidup Maggie yang penuh dengan trauma hingga sukar untuk mempercayai orang lain. Trauma membuatkannya cuba menjauhkan diri daripada berhubungan dengan insan lain.

Another confession is that Andrea's books sometimes give me the creeps. I'm easily disturbed and the most annoying part about a great thriller like this that you don't want to stop reading is that I have to when night falls. I admit it. If this was on the telly I'd be behind the sofa with my eyes shut. The adult(s) overseeing us would sit on the porch chatting, napping, drinking, telling us to stop hitting one another Join three friends—Bear, Owl, and Fox—as they play Hide-and-Seek at a playground in the woods. Using the slide, swings, and trees, R. D. Ornot deftly weaves the prepositions into their game. The position words fit the story naturally, without seeming forced. A climbing wall, a bench, a tunnel, and a bridge provide more hiding places for their game. Fourteen competitors, the list is approved, seven days in an abandoned amusement park, cell-free zone, sleeping outside is part of the game, a cash prize, houses of fun and terror. It's a "horror reality show". I write books for children of all ages but I began with picture books, and they will always have a special place in my heart. I like all different types of picture books. Sometimes we read for pure entertainment, and sometimes to find out about the world, but the books on this list hit the sweet spot between the two. They are all books that will inspire further conversation and might even lead to related projects at school or home.

It's taken me a long time to come to grips with how I feel about this book. I liked a couple things and I really disliked some things. Unfortunately, the bad override the good. Meanwhile, Rebus' boss, Detective Superintendent Watson, has roped him in to help on an anti-drugs campaign, which lets him hob nob with the rich and powerful -- fancy lunches and parties, invitations to the most exclusive clubs. I couldn’t work out the solution to the mystery for most of the book, even at that I only deduced part of it! I’m not slipping, it’s just a particularly good mystery! 😅 Seven of the contenders are aspiring and favorite: A social media fitness model, a graffiti artist, a YouTube prank show hostess, an app developer/ house sitter, a jewelry designer/ dog walker, a zealous CrossFit Instructor, an actress with severe food allergies in a second unwelcome surprise, the ARC's "dear reader" letter (am i the only one who reads these?) proclaims the story to be: an of-the-moment, scarily precise diagnosis of class and privilege and generational wealth. In this story we follow fourteen contestants competing in a Hide-and-Seek contest at an abandoned amusement park. Too impatient, unwilling to really flesh Rebus out, Rankin offers another practise run with Hide and Seek, as he tries to figure the character out. Is it a perfect book? No. But it's an easy read with a unique concept, interesting characters, a creepy atmosphere, and social commentary sprinkled on top. I kept pausing my work to read a few more chapters because I needed to know how it ended! In Hide and Seek Detective Inspector John Rebus is confronted with the top and bottom of Edinburgh society.
