Description

Encanto is all about Mirabel, played by Stephanie Beatriz, and her family, all of whom were blessed with magical powers- except Mirabel! The film follows Mirabel as she tries to discover what her power might be, why she doesn't have one, and what family really means. Like Agustin, it seems that he took his wife's surname, rather than per the usual marriage customs in Colombia and other Spanish-speaking countries where both of them keep their own surnames. Originally the Madrigal family had even more members with even more special powers, including a child who could tell fortunes, a girl with power over fire, and twins who could project auras! However, since the Madrigal clan was already pretty big (and therefore very complex for the animators) the filmmakers decided to cut these characters. The most famous work of art to come out of Colombia (and a strong contender for the designation of greatest novel ever written) is Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude, and the studio’s new film Encanto pays homage to that magical realist masterwork with its story of a multi-generational family blessed by wonderful enchantments. Official Description [ ] Félix provides a grounding force for his deeply passionate wife Pepa—he’s easygoing and often the life of the party. [1] Felix is Pepa's husband and father to Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio. He is kind and is always the life of the party. Felix loves his wife very much and wants nothing more than to make her happy. Development [ ] While he goes along with his family (especially his wife) and towns people's refrains from talking about Bruno as his name is considered a taboo, Félix himself is not against bringing up his name when Mirabel inquired to learn more about her maternal uncle, only stopping when Pepa shushed him. Adding to that, Félix does not seem to hold any hard feelings against Bruno, even when he seemingly ruined his and Pepa's wedding day by adding distress to Pepa, and indirectly causing a hurricane, as Félix still remembers his wedding day as wonderful. When Bruno reunited with the Madrigals and cleared up the misunderstanding, Félix appears to have a hunch beforehand that Bruno is not malicious by heart and simply wanted to help his sister and supports his brother-in-law. Even though some people believed umbrellas could not fit through doors, other people considered them parachutes because parachutes were said to be “nothing more nor less than a huge umbrella.”[10] This idea resulted in a man well-known to the King of Siam entertaining the King and his court by leaping from great heights with “two Umbrellas, with long slender handles, fastened to his girdle.”[11] Deleted: Zoe Madrigal • Fuega Madrigal • José Madrigal • Amélia and Sofía Madrigal • Miranda Madrigal • Princesa Madrigal • Bubo MarquezWell, not the magic house bit, but the animators and filmmakers made sure to put lots of their own experiences and feelings into the film to make sure it felt authentically Colombian. Encanto | Disney Studios | Clark Spencer, Yvett Merino | Byron Howard, Jared Bush 4. It's Disney's 60th animated film

Fans of In The Heights will have no doubt recognised a moment in Encanto's 'Welcome To The Family Madrigal' that's pretty similar to a moment in 'It Won't Be Long Now'. As people around Mirabel are singing her name repeatedly, Abuela shouts 'Mirabel' and everything stops. A very similar moment happens with Vanessa in 'It Won't Be Long Now'. We love a Lin-Manuel Miranda musical reference! The latest stop on Disney Animation Studios’ world tour, following Raya and the Last Dragon’s riff on Fantasy Asia earlier this year, is Colombia. It can also be translated as 'Spell', 'Magic' or 'Enchantment', and is a reference to the magical family it follows! It can also be used to mean 'Sweetheart'! Encanto | Disney Studios | Clark Spencer, Yvett Merino | Byron Howard, Jared Bush 9. It features lots of famous voices There was also a Dr. John Jamieson that bought an umbrella in Paris in the early 1780s and when he returned to Glasgow, he remarked that “he was stared at with his umbrella.”[8] Many people thought them “a perfect phenomenon” and did not understand exactly how they worked. One man fortunate enough to borrow a newfangled umbrella from a friend on a rainy day, soon found he could not enter his residence with it because the umbrella was too wide. He returned it to his friend stating “this’ll never do; there’s nae a door in a’ my house that’ll tak it in.”[9]

Mirabel sings in 3/4 while the rest of her family sing in 4/4 to show she's not quite on the same rhythm as them. As with the rest of the Madrigal family, Félix was designed to reflect "family archetypes that are immediately relatable". [2] As in the final production, the studio created Félix from the start with a cheerful and relaxed personality to contrast with the more nervous and restless personality of his wife Pepa. During the creation process, Félix, along with Agustín, were originally explored as a "double act". Originally they were both from outside the Encanto and they had a connection to Mirabel because they also don't have powers, in their case, because they married into the family. [3] Mankind are divided into two great classes in reference to umbrellas—one which buys umbrellas, and one which does not.”[16] Stevens, John Austin, etal., The Magazine of American History with Notes and Queries, Vol. 18, 1887 , p. 259. But like The Umbrella Academy, the story of Encanto focuses on the only family member who doesn’t have an evident superpower: Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz), the younger sister of Luisa and Isabela who desperately wants to prove she can support her family and community just as well as they can.
