Contracts legal reasons forced Neon Leon to change name to Supasoca, now a group, and for several more hits before this band split up. The books are wonderful, interactive in a variety of ways, are inclusive/diverse with a variety of subjects. A bit later they did music for porn movies and were dating porn models, which finally led to the end for this band.

Little readers get the chance to participate by: answering questions about where Leon is, telling Leon what colour he should turn, clapping their hands, counting to ten and much more. When we stopped, we looked at the color Leon had landed on and talked about whether he blended in or stood out. She moved to London in 1988 to study illustration and fine art at St Martin's College and the Royal College of Art.Sometimes the novels chosen are new, often they are from the backlist and occasionally re-issued from way back. With rare exceptions such as bank holidays, the book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7.

In 1979, Neon Leon was a part of the Sid Vicious and Nancy Spungen scandal when he and his then girlfriend were living in the same hotel as the punk couple and was socializing with Sid and Nancy the night when she was stabbed to death by Sid (because of Sid's death shortly after Nancy's death there seems not to be 100% clarity about what happened that night, there are several theories about the murder). Neon Leon" is a catchy, fun, original book that sadly was not well thought through as a children's story. If I were to read this book to my class, I would do so for the interactive aspect and highlight that aspect. When NYC hit its punk stride in the mid 1970s, the one-of-a-kind ‘Neon’ Leon Matthews was already in the thick of it.

He left Europe for Jamaica some time and changed his artist name to King Lion and was even more inspired by reggae than before, later going back to Europe and some club hits from France to Scandinavia. But sure enough, they both got together for an impossibly great recording of “Heart of Stone” included here that surely equals the classic rendition by The Pagans (that’s become the gold standard). The illustrations are nice and colourful however I'm not really sure about the message it gives to the reader. With that being said, the illustration is beautiful and the interactive aspect of the book would make for a fun read-aloud for younger elementary students. But Mum reacted like a battlefield surgeon and instantly put her fingers down his throat, before driving him up to the ambulance. However I have had to totally change the story to remove what are, in my view, quite damaging themes.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. In this delightful interactive book, filled with vibrant neon artwork, children can help Leon on his journey by counting his steps, sending him to sleep and giving him lots of reassurance when he's feeling down. It includes the scorching debut single “Rock ‘N’ Roll Is Alive”, originally released in 1979 on the tiny Big Deal Records. In Britta Teckentrup’s bold illustrations, Leon stands out in electric orange against the gentler greens, grays and blues of the world.
