Description

My heart goes out to Clover as this young girl has been through so much heartache and abuse she is still determined to get her happy ending. yr old Clover Moon doesn't go to school. She has to stay home and look after her many step siblings and younger sister Megs. Clover uses her imagination to entertain them and is popular with the alley's children. But Clover is unhappy. Her stepmother is nasty and even beats her and Clover wants to leave. But how could she leave Megs and Pa?

The narrative now poses the questions what kind of life Clover can fashion for herself and what her future will hold. It goes almost without saying that the narrative unfolds with expert skill in the hands of this masterly story-teller. Mildred’s abuse of Clover is not revealed in a sudden blinding moment. It is revealed step by painful step, rendered all the more convincing for that. There's this small section that pushed the rating up. It seemed like Clover was speaking to every upper-class condescending character in JW books (trust me, there's more than you'd think): Yearling (imprint of Random House Children's Books) an imprint of Random House Children's Publishers UK

Ratings

Clover's Dad comes across as broken since her mother passed away. He re marries and Clover's new step mum is cruel and bullies Clover, so much so she really hurts her one day taking things a step too far! What is wrong with mothers in JW books? They're either incredible, working mums, snappish, evil, pressuring non-working mums or dead. I understand that it makes a good novel, but eyou know what also makes a good novel? A bit of variety. Jacqueline Wilson wrote her first novel when she was nine years old, and she has been writing ever since. She is now one of Britain’s bestselling and most beloved children’s authors. She has written over 100 books and is the creator of characters such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather. More than forty million copies of her books have been sold.

Matilda Greenacre, age 10- 'I love this book...If you like the Hetty Feather series you will definitely enjoy the tale of Clover Moon.' Clover Moon lives in Cripps Alley, a slum street in Victorian England. Her father works at the factory and the heavy work has taken a toll on his health. He likes to drink an ale or two after work, spending money the family can barely afford. Clover's mother died giving birth to her younger sister, Megs, a wispy, shy child. Father married again - to Mildred, a sharp-tongued woman who is free with a beating, particularly if the beating goes to Clover. Clover has another four half-siblings and it's Clover, rather than Mildred, who takes care of them. It has so many interesting elements. I always appreciate historical fiction, especially when it is so child friendly and relatable. Children in the 21st century can easily relate to Rose and other characters, such as Sebastian.Bryher, age 11- 'This book is like an eye catching gem, nice and shiny on the outside with the amazing raw material on the inside. The plot was great, really smooth and blended together really well. It is the Hetty Feather next generation.' Emily Pitfield, age 11- 'Clover Moon is a character you can fall in love with. Her determination and creative flair make for a great character and a well written story.'

Thank you to Netgalley, Penguin Random house U.K. And Jacqueline Wilson for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.Clover is such a formidable character. She deels with the hand that fate served her remarkably well. She is strong, caring, determined, charismatic, and filled with optimism and enthusiasm. Sadie Parker, age 11- 'A thrilling story that really captures the life of a poor girl in Victorian Britain.'

Double Act won the prestigious Smarties Medal and the Children’s Book Award as well as being highly commended for the Carnegie Medal. The Story of Tracy Beaker won the 2002 Blue Peter People’s Choice Award. I can say this. The writing style is still what I came to know and love growing up. Fans of Jacqueline both young and old will find this an enjoyable read. I loved it.a painter also, encourages her she can't help but fall a little for Paris as he's older but shows her attention. As Paris is commissioned to paint a portrait of her mother, Rose gets the chance to spend time with him where he encourages her greatly. She discovers she is a talented comedy sketch artist where as painting isn't her forte. Ava Sorrell, age 10- ' Clover Moonis a sad, touching and exciting story by the marvellous Jacqueline Wilson.' Georgie Docwra, age 11- 'I rate this book 5 stars and whilst all of Jacqueline Wilson's books have all been brilliant and I am her biggest fan, this is the best Jacqueline Wilson book I've ever read!' Evie Aconley, age 9- 'The book is set in Victorian times, I really enjoyed it although it can be a little sad at times. Her imagination is fun and interesting.'
