Description

I think that journaling for our personal relationship with the Lord is fantastic, but I also want to keep my kids in mind as well. When I get to go home to heaven, I want to keep pouring into their lives and this is such a great way to do it. Leather keeps longer! Thanks for sharing! I also like two pretty equally…maybe all 3 evenly. HAHA, it will be challening to choose! Thank you for sharing!

A bestiary is a book of animals, real or imaginary, defined and accompanied by illustrations. This genre originated in Greece in the 2nd century CE but was most popular during the Middle Ages when a number of them were produced to show a correlation between the natural world and the Christian vision of the Bible. The Westminster Abbey Bestiary is a fine example of this type of work. Drawing on both pre-Christian and biblical stories, the book presents an array of fascinating creatures across its 164 illustrations, each one represented in striking detail. One notable modern illuminated manuscript is The Saint John's Bible, the first completely handwritten and illuminated Bible to be commissioned by a Benedictine abbey since the invention of the printing press. Production of the seven-volume illuminated Bible was finished in 2011. [29] The Saint John's Bible is hand-written on vellum by quill, with 160 illuminations throughout the volumes. [30] Gallery [ edit ] Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, MS. fr. 8846 ( Great Canterbury Psalter, Anglo-Catalan Psalter or Paris Psalter - also part 14th-century) Decorative and illuminated calligraphy is present in the sacred texts of several religions, but among the Abrahamic faiths only Christian scripture is also illustrated extensively in grand copies. Within the Jewish tradition, figurative imagery is limited to certain books and biblical commentaries (never the Torah). This is based on a strict interpretation of the Second Commandment against graven images or likenesses (Exodus 20.4). However, in both Western and Eastern Christendom almost any type of decoration is possible, whether individual narrative images in letters, literal or allegorical illustration, or story-telling biblical picture books where text is minimal. Have you heard about the Illuminated Bible yet? Doesn’t it sound fancy and intriguing? Just look at it! Its gold leafing and classical design is just begging me to open it up!

Illuminated Manuscripts in Cambridge: A Catalogue of Western Book Illumination in the Fitzwilliam Museum and the Cambridge Colleges (London: Harvey Miller Publishers in conjunction with the Modern Humanities Association. 1999– ) With the myriad of Bible translations on the market today, few stand out. The ESV is one of the few, and surpasses the others in its simple yet elegant style.”
