Description

He designed Julius Caesar (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre) and the highly successful centennial touring production of Charley’s Aunt. In Looking Good Dead, Grace suspects the sudden death of a former schoolteacher may not be a drugs overdose as first assumed, and links it with the discovery of human remains in a Sussex field. Otherwise, you’ll likely be left incredulous at how such a dire production could have made it to the stage, with the far worser crime being that it’s roughly 135 minutes which you’ll never get back. The first episode, Dead Simple, was shifted forward in the schedules by a week, originally set to air on March 21.

The all-important sinister baddies, however (not naming names here as this is a strictly no-spoilers review) do an admirable job of being really bad, and the slick set adds the required edge, menace and suspense to a handful of edgy, menacing, suspenseful scenes that, sadly, often feel a little bit too rushed-over for full impact. At the site of a tragic road traffic collision an unexpected discovery suggests more to the case than meets the eye.

When Detective Superintendent Roy Grace becomes involved, he has his own demons to contend with, while he tries to crack the case in time to save the Bryce family’s lives. When a team of police officers (led by James regular, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace) crack corny jokes, like comparing dung to IKEA meatballs, any hope that these are a serious group of detectives is decimated.Following strong viewing figures for the opening episode, a second series of three films was then commissioned in 2021, with broadcasting beginning in May 2022. Simm in particular is naturally charismatic in the role, making Grace at once unknowable yet also deeply empathetic at the same time. Screen credits include The Nurse in Repression (Accento Films), Reporter in Taggart (STV), Sciron in Scottish Bafta Winning Last Commanders (CBBC), Lauren in Yo Diary!
