Description

As with any appliance you use in your campervan, it is very important that you regularly maintain your diesel heater and we always recommend that this should be carried out by a qualified professional. How much fuel does a diesel heater use? With such a low price tag, you’d be forgiven for expecting a poorly made product. Nothing could be further from the truth, though. The MaXpeedingrods diesel heater is made from high-quality materials and is reported to work surprisingly well. The 5kW model has a heating capacity of up to 17,000 BTUs per hour, making it ideal for heating a large campervan. Plus, it comes with a nifty LCD control panel that’s easy to use and works just great.

And don’t worry about safety – the exhaust gases containing combustion by-products are expelled safely outside the vehicle. Yes, you can try and keep nice and toasty with more traditional methods like wearing layers, wrapping up in big, heavy blankets and drinking gallons of warm drinks (that’s unless it’s too cold and your gas supply has frozen so you can’t even boil your kettle...yikes)!Can be too warm. If you’ve got a small van then a 5kW unit can be too warm even when they’re on Low. This can mean needing to turn it off and on (or opening a window slightly… which can be good for condensation anyway). Faster equals louder. You need to run the unit at a higher setting to achieve the same heat output as the 5kW version. This means higher fan and fuel pump pulse rate (which means it’ll be louder if you’re in a larger van or you’re in a camper trailer with lots of canvas) Dimensional Consideration: With dimensions of 389mm x 145mm x 145mm, users need to ensure sufficient space for installation.

These now come with the addition of an exhaust silencer and a combustion air silencer to further reduce noise. You will also want to opt for a 5KW heater if you plan to spend long periods in cold temperatures and not just the odd weekend. Plumbed or non-plumbed If you’re looking for a heater with a warranty and longevity, opt for the more premium models. Budget heaters use cheaper materials which are more likely to fail over the shorter term and warranties are non-existent. Fuel efficiency Both options will still require running fuel lines to and from the heater, ensuring it’s free from any rough surfaces and anything that could harm the cable. One of the most popular spots is under the passenger seat. There’s plenty of space under there, it’s nicely enclosed, and it’s away from the van’s sleeping area in most cases. Campervan diesel heater under seat. Photo: @richbuiltvans
