The 4.1 mix, which is the one that I listened to, is outstanding. You get a real sense for the environment that Carpenter creates for the film and the sense of dread that slowly creeps into the film. The score by Ennio Morricone sounds great and adds to that sense of dread. Dialogue is crisp and clear. pinball machines, even as the interior design is otherwise spartan and visually uninteresting. The HDR colors far exceed the output on the Blu-ray, I don't care if the Arrow release brings out better colors or raises visibility, because, for whatever else is does, they destroy the vibe that makes it so gritty and realistic. The true movie magic. The following camera shot of the helicopter at 15:50 is one of the most beautiful in the film. It’s a pan across the Antarctic that lasts about 20 seconds, taking MacReady and Dr. Blair (Wilford Brimley) to the Norwegian station. These are the kinds of shots that look great in 4k on a large screen TV, delivering that cinematic experience as close as possible to home. As expected from new releases, the picture is 100 percent clean, carries a slight amount of film grain and is consistent in quality. The image is always crisp, clear and well detailed. The level of sharpness is good, but could have been slightly better – but don't think that you can't still make out rogue hairs and fine details like splattering blood from alien-inflicted wounds.

There's an unquantifiable atmosphere involved that isn't a function of the brightest cleanest shots and highest resolution. What you call excessive cold and blue hues isn't misguided impression, IT IS "THE THING". John Carpenter’s The Thing arrives on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray with an excellent native 4K transfer with HDR10 grading. This is a film with a very passionate fanbase who needs to own this in every new and hopefully better version possible. I’m one of those, and with that devotion comes some heated discussion about benefits and detriments to any release. While few would argue that the 2008 disc lands anywhere near the top, the discussion between Scream Factory’s 2016 release and Arrow’s 2017 release certainly was tense, to say the least. Every release of this film has had some plusses and minuses often drawing some hard lines with fans. There's a reoccurring theme and form of horror movies that I enjoy the most – not knowing who's good and who's bad. This dichotomy bring out the wildness of self-preservation, at times turning the human characters into selfish monsters. 'The Thing' lies within this fun category of horror. It becomes a question of determining what's a bigger threat – the aliens outside or the humans inside. It's a fun scenario that creates tension and allows likeable characters to do wild and awful things. gives The Thing a new life. There so many details were hard to notice in previous home media releases such as the wall of girlie photos in the pool room at 00:4:50. But with improved sharpness in the video comes more visibility of film imperfections.

In fact there’s not a bad performance in The Thing everyone adds a little something to proceedings. however, that limitations appears to be inherent to the original sound design. The sound design in total is vital in building the film's tone. Cold, blusteryThe Thing' hits Blu-ray with a 1080p/VC-1 encode presented in a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. Considering how good the transfer looks, it's time for the wary fans of Carpenter's 'Thing' to push their fears aside and enjoy this prequel.
