Containing malt whisky from Clynelish distillery, the blend is described as having a ‘crisp, clean taste’ with a ‘green and grassy’ flavour and notes of ‘vanilla and tropical fruit’. There is also an Oban Bay Reserve, paired with the Night’s Watch, and a Talisker Select Reserve, paired with House Greyjoy. The first whiskies were due to be sent to fans from around 19 February, said Diageo, ahead of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones in April. The thermochromic ink changes the look of the entire bottle once below freezing. The ink on the bottle reacts to the cold temperature and reveals that “Winter is Here” on one side. Adorning the label of this limited release Johnnie Walker is Diageo’s depiction of the Night King (supreme leader of the White Walkers), whose eyes glow blue when the whisky is ready to be pulled from the freezer. This is a really neat effect I have never seen on a bottle before but considering both the nose and palate prefer room temperature for tasting it does make one skeptical up front. Nonetheless it is intriguing enough to try, especially if you enjoy “Game of Thrones.”

Scotch whisky maker Diageo released a special Johnnie Walker White Walker edition in October 2018 in anticipation of the final series of Game of Thrones, which first aired in April 2019. Johnnie Walker A Song of Ice features single malts from Clynelish, one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries, and exudes a crisp, clean taste like the unforgiving force of ice that shapes mountains and stops rivers. The new blend has an ABV of 40.2% and the bottle design evokes an icy setting with frosted blue and gray colors inspired by the North, known for its cold winters and frozen landscapes. Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire is rich and spicy, boasting flavors of subtle smoke from the peated malts of the Caol Ila distillery with an ABV of 40.8%. Inspired by the dragons of House Targaryen, feared for their fire breathing, the bottle design evokes a fiery setting with deep-red colors.Eager for the latest House of the Dragon updates? Join the conversation on our PopCulture Discord group 🔥🐉 Whether in conflict or harmony, this is a tale of two great houses represented by two ancient creatures. One is a house descended from the First Men. Rulers of the North and builders of the wall, they thrive in the icy-cold climate of the Direwolf. The other, a noble family of Valyrian descent and the first royal house of the Seven Kingdoms. Fire courses through their veins and is made flesh in the form of their dragons. Hey, remember Game of Thrones? Johnnie Walker does, and they’re making sure the epic TV series stays alive with the third installment of whisky inspired by the show.

House Greyjoy rules the Iron Islands and worships the Drowned God. Talisker was a natural pair for House Greyjoy as this single malt is distilled on the shores of the Isle of Skye, one of the most remote and rugged areas of Scotland. The layered flavors and signature maritime character of Talisker Select Reserve are the result of its wave-battered shores. This liquid is an intense smoky single malt scotch with spicy, powerful and sweet elements combined with maritime flavors.

In celebration of the eighth and final season of the critically-acclaimed TV series, Game of Thrones, Johnnie Walker is proud to introduce a number of products inspired by the show. We’re excited to be partnering with HBO on White Walker by Johnnie Walker, which will launch this fall. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months!” Chill filtration is normally an unnecessary intrusion on the flavor of one’s whiskey as it removes flavor compounds, but I can see why it would be deemed essential in this case since this whisky is pulled from the freezer. At cold temperatures whiskey that has not undergone chill filtration will become cloudy. When this happens, the whiskey is still the same as before, but some folks find it unsightly and therefore some distilleries undertake the process purely for cosmetic reasons. The Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection features eight scotches that are all new to the U.S. Each is paired with one of the Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, plus one ofDiageo’sdistilleries in Scotland that links somehow with that house or character, the company says,“from the power of water between both House Tully and The Singleton of Glendullan, to the legendary women behind House Targaryen and Cardhu, or the royal lineage of House Baratheon and Royal Lochnagar and more.” Each of these eight unique, new scotches is paired with one of the iconic Houses of Westeros, as well as the Night’s Watch, giving fans an authentic taste of the Seven Kingdoms and beyond. House Stark’s resiliency, strength, and ability to thrive under the most intense situations are greatly shaped by Winterfell’s frigid temperatures. Dalwhinnie, known for being the highest distillery in all of Scotland is cold and remote much like the North where House Stark calls home, making the two an iconic pairing. Extreme conditions are responsible for shaping the signature Dalwhinnie Winter’s Frost honeyed sweetness and spicy warmth. Naturally, it’s best served chilled or over ice. Nose: Soft hints of orange Fruit Pastilles and dried apricot. Toffee, vanilla pod and ginger snaps. Its launch follows the debut of ‘White Walker’, a Game of Thrones-inspired, blended Scotch within the Johnnie Walker brand.

Game of Thrones reached it’s conclusion more than a year ago. Many of the show’s stars have moved on to new projects. Some are trying their hands in theatre, like Emilia Clarke and Indira Varma. Some are busy filming, like Iain Glenn and Kit Harington. While there are others who have their own production houses to deal with. Like Lena Headey, who played the Lion Queen Cersei Lannister on the show. Peephole Productions co-produced Headey’s BAFTA-nominated short The Trap. They will produce the feature-length version in 2021. The Scotch, from the Mortlach distillery in Dufftown, in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region, also comes encased in a gold canister adorned by the show’s three-eyed raven character. A Song of Ice and A Song of Fire are designed as a pair; you’re ideally supposed to sample these two spirits together to get a sense of how the House of Walker can blend its component whiskies into wildly different finished products.
