Description

Taken alongside Drone Metal dark lords Sunn O))) performing at Bergen’s Domkirke cathedral in 2007, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking that Norse Black Metal’s theological war against Christianity had actually been won. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Yet, the band's unusual visual presentation also works as a portal, a direct entrance into highly energetic sensations that moves outside the standardized markers of the metal and noise genre. The stage design was a collaboration between light designer Kyrre Heldal Karlsen and I, animating a patterned backdrop by using LED lights and colored strobes. The fact that there are no actual recordings of Killl means that the band really only exists in this live form.

The ASL fingerspelling provided here is most commonly used for proper names of people and places; it is also used in some languages for concepts for which no sign is available at that moment. Vocals are used sparingly and favour both the high-pitched caterwauling prevalent in Black Metal and guttural growls preferred by Death Metal bands. Instead of trying to reconstruct a moment, the KILLL movie presses the digital to the breaking point, and even a bit further - then, cut as tightly and uncompromisingly as the music itself. However the Killl live experience is closer to an early Acid House rave than a traditional rock concert.Since then KILLL has continued to craft songs is the same fashion, favoring the live experience and never going into the studio. Anyone wandering into this large white room prior to the concert could easily mistake the stage set as an installation: there’s no actual stage. in september, however, they will release a CD and a DVD with live footage from the band's concerts in the period 2005 - 2009, presented in a lavishly designed 8-panel digipack including two posters - this is nothing less than a manifesto of a phenomenon! The centre in Høvik, just outside Oslo, opened its doors in August 1968 with a specially commissioned electro-acoustic piece entitled ‘Solitaire’ by Norwegian composer Arne Nordheim. KILLL is a project that has challenged the boundaries of their own expression since they came together in 2003. In stark contrast to the slick hi-res standard of many live videos today, the KILLL footage is characterized by the use of early models of digital cameras and their lacking ability to process hardcore strobes and hyperactive LED lamps. My only minor niggle is that a cd that is in a cardboard sleeve maybe could do with being sent out in sturdier packaging.

KILLL is the side-project of four active Norwegian musicians; Martin Horntveth ( Jaga Jazzist), Espen Hangård ( Diskord, NoPlaceToHide), Erlend Mokkelbost ( JR Ewing, Montée) and Are Mokkelbost ( Single Unit, ARM). The DVD compiled recordings and footage from numerous concerts all over Europe over several years, combining official documentation tapes from the venues with early digital camera footage from the audience. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. Their closest sonic relatives are perhaps John Zorn’s experiments with metal dynamics in Painkiller and the excellent Norwegian atmospheric Metal band Ulver.Filmed with everything from surveillance cameras to cell phones to steadycams, the movies are to a large extent based on material donated from the audience and organisers. Evoking a state of emotion that ranges from total confusion and emptiness to blissful enthusiasm and a strong sense of belonging.
