in their review that they felt like they were third wheeling this friend group, like they were doing their own thing and as the reader you didn’t really have a reason to care, and that’s exactly how i feel! After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week… in front of those who know you best? After years of being in love, how hard can it be to fake it for one week…in front of those who know you best? The tension between preserving the past/tradition and moving forward to new experiences is well explored, as well as the extent to which someone should compromise within their relationship.

I get that they were in that trip mourning their youth and trying to have a good time, but goddamn it was painful. Their annual respite from the world, where for one vibrant, blue week they leave behind their daily lives; have copious amounts of cheese, wine, and seafood; and soak up the salty coastal air with the people who understand them most. harriet and i mirror each other in so many ways, and reading it in words across a book made me feel so seen and comforted.

And if I am being totally honest, I felt like the ending was not enough payoff for the all the emotional trauma we were all put through. Which is how they find themselves sharing a bedroom at the Maine cottage that has been their friend group s yearly getaway for the last decade. harriet has a tendency to push everyone away, including wyn; and wyn has a tendency to worry and overthink things—which in time ended up clashing together but it was handled so immaculately, i found it bearable and i just wanted to see them both get their happy ending. Brimming with characters you can't help but fall for and off-the-charts chemistry, HAPPY PLACE is Emily Henry doing what she does best! The only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 is that it did take me a bit to get into the romance plotline (not knowing the breakup reason for so long frustrated me), and I felt the pacing could be a bit quicker in the middle, but I LOVED the last 100 pages so so so much.

harriet or should I say harry 😃 Harriet *deep sigh* I was rooting for u girl, we were all rooting for u. My best friends taught me a new kind of quiet, the peaceful stillness of knowing one another so well you don’t need to fill the space. i’m sure i forgot something and i’ll definitely come update this but at the end of it i do still love emily henry as an author and i will continue to read whatever she publishes. this story is narrated by harriet and it is alternated between a past and present timeline, and explores how this tight-knit friend group met and harriet’s life since then.the reason why i loved this book so much, was not the romance but harriet’s introspection and character. Which is how they end up sharing a bedroom at the cottage that has been their yearly getaway with their best friends for the past decade. And so perhaps it was my tempered expectations going in, but Happy Place turned out to be a very happy surprise for me.

Overall, 'Beach Read' and 'Book Lovers' are still my reigning favourites of Henry's but this a worthy addition to your romance collection. I really really really tried to like him for the first 150 pages or so BUT PICKING A SIDE TABLE MADE OUT OF SHOE BOXES (thank u for reminding me rasa) FROM THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WAS MY LAST STRAW. The way her found family move around each other and interact with each other is so natural and genuine. Emily Henry has a gift of bringing you within the story and making you not only understand each character but imports you there so vividly too.

That doesn't mean they're perfect, but they put in the work to keep their friendships in a solid place. I had so many good things to say about her at the start but it all got cancelled out by her stupidity. However, this year they are lying through their teeth as they broke up SIX months ago and still haven't told anyone! but it was 400 pages long and when she’s being annoying for 350 of them, “occasionally” doesn’t cut it. Emily Henry is up there with the best romantic comedy authors writing today, and Happy Place is an absolute classic of her feel-good novels. You know it can’t last and that you have to go back to reality but that time away, it can do so much for your soul and the author captured that perfectly. why is nobody talking about this 😭 i swear to god every single chapter was her being horny and wanting to literally jump wyn and thinking about jumping wyn and fantasizing about jumping wyn and IT GOT SO OLD HOLY SHIT. Both, Harriet and Wyn made a lot of assumptions instead of actually talk to each other, which could have spared us from a 400 pages book. It feels like a moment before a car accident, when the tires have started to hydroplane and you know something terrible is likely coming, but there's still a chance the tread will find purchase and you'll never know what agony you narrowly avoided.
