Description

After the reading, Carlton prompts viewers to consider what type of shoes are appropriate for varied occasions and environments. I will be using as a pre-K - 2nd grade read aloud to build in movement (you can having kids act out the movement words on each page while reading: shuffling, creeping, bouncing, etc) to build vocabulary, community and springboard into conversations about noticing and appreciating differences. There is only one place in the whole book where we see the whole baby and that is hidden under the back cover so take a peek! The feel of the city is all captured here - fast and fun, lively and diverse, original and creative.

As a parent who always reads children’s books before reading to my daughter, I was excited to see such inclusion and love in this book. CITY FEET is a multilingual rhyming tribute to the rhythms and diversity of city streets, shown from a toddler's view of funny, fancy and fabulous feet. Aixa has lived in several different countries, and draws inspiration for her stories and illustrations from diverse locations.I love that the focus isn't just on what the footwear looks like, but what the people are doing as they go about their day in the city - bouncing, waiting for a bus, dancing, playing hopscotch, waiting in line, dragging as they get tired. Aixa Perez-Prado takes the reader on a journey through the city (or cities) to show such diversity and community in a really wonderful way.

This is such a fun and beautiful book that kids will absolutely enjoying reading over and over again. The main character in this story is a baby that is observing the multitude of interesting and curious legs and feet that are moving in all sorts of ways through the city. She has published two books on teaching through critical and creative thinking strategies and created the cover art for both. I have been fairly successful at pitching on twitter, at least in terms of getting requests, but this is the first time a pitch has led to publication.

With over 6 million of the world’s best eBooks to choose from, Kobo offers you a whole world of reading. But read this book slowly and pay attention not only to the lyrical rhyming text, but to all the different feet and background. Though there are no faces pictured, these feet each tell a story as they romp through the year on city streets. I loved the addition of different languages and the unique perspective of exploring a city and its people from just their feet.

The story walks the reader through various parts of a bustling city and all the different shoes and feet of its inhabitants. City Feet Clinic has some of Sydney’s leading podiatry experts with a large number of happy clients and a high referral rate. She started her strolling in Buenos Aires, then shuffled off to Buffalo, coasted across California, roamed around Costa Rica, moseyed through Morocco, and left footprints on the beaches of Brazil.

This deceptively simple, rollicking romp, from morning to night, through a city is focused entirely on feet has and has so much to offer.
