We then took photos of how drenched they were and judged how much soaking power one shot from each water gun has. Ways to keep your family living costs down, and kids of all ages happy Get our Family newsletter – it's free monthly

This tactic can be used to your advantage when your enemies run out of water, too. If you're close to the refill station when they need to come in to load up, they'll be left wide open for you to give them a good soaking without any risk of return fire. 2) Aim highWe're looking especially to see if manufacturer claims prove accurate in the real world, so if a product is advertised on its ability to fire water jets far, but in reality they go just a few meters, we'll tell you. This particular toy is made in the shape of a blaster gun. It is brightly coloured, like most Nerf products, fairly lightweight for the intended age group, and easy to use. Shooting is performed by using a pump-like mechanism (note that the trigger is made mostly for aesthetic purposes) and when you need a refill of water, you use an opening at the top with the screw lid. The said opening is rather big enabling you to fill the tank by immersing the gun in water as well as simply from the tap. It is strongly recommended to only use clean tap water since in the case of accidentally getting some of it into your eyes (say, from being soaked wet head to toe and dripping water from your hair) you can damage your vision. When I was a kid, a Super Soaker had a water tank that was pressurized by pumping air into it. You then pulled the trigger and it shot water until it had no more pressure, and you pumped air again. If you've got a water gun with a good range, this tactic will help you maximise your advantage. 3) Keep moving We measured the capacity of each water gun by filling the water tank up to maximum and then pouring it out into a container on a set of scales that told us how many millilitres of water were inside.

You'll have to make those shots count, however, as despite having a capacity of more than a litre we only fired it seven times before it needed refilling. This may be partly due to how much water is wasted during pumping, as it dribbled a lot of water out of the end of the barrel when we were pumping it up. If your water gun was just bought recently at the store, you can avoid the repair process completely by returning the water gun. If a certain part of your water gun has broken, you may be able to buy a replacement part from Hasbro. Bushes, trees and garden furniture are all excellent sources of cover in a water fight. Not only will you avoid getting hit, you'll also keep out of sight and can ambush your enemies when they least expect it. This SIMREX model is the closest you will get to a fully functional blaster among water guns. Although it is visibly a toy thanks to the bright colours (there are two options—white-blue and green-grey-orange), it also has an actual working trigger instead of a decorative one, and a scope to target your game enemies with more precision. Granted, there are no actual optics in it but that's not what we're looking for in a toy, right? Kids just love pretending to aim through the sights when they shoot the water at each other, it's fun. According to team Magnus, the incog water gun “is in line with modern kids’ gadgetry,” and we all agree because the incog water gun looks so simply, you’ll never know it’s a water gun.Great outdoor fun during the summer season involves a variety of activities. And because it’s summer, you need to cool down your body with lots of water! That’s why summer is the best season to play water battle games, and no water battles can exist without water guns. You only fire once between each refill, so you've got to make it count, but that one shot comes with plenty of range and firepower. A distance of 9.6 metres made this the winner of our range test, and if you're unfortunate enough to get caught in the fire of this blaster you're sure to get soaked.
