The MT500 Burner pants fit incredibly well around the upper legs and waist. Thanks in part to the stretch from the fabric and raised rear of the waist, I had zero issues with them shifting about or drooping while riding. Manufacturers describe their garments as having three two or layers but what does this mean? A two-layer fabric is made up of an outer face fabric bonded to the waterproof membrane, usually with a mesh liner hanging inside. On a 2.5 layer, the mesh liner is replaced with a micro (or half) layer, which is either bonded or printed onto the membrane. A three-layer garment has the membrane sandwiched between two Nylon layers. Vents All waterproof fabrics are rated for waterproofness and anything over 10,000mm is pretty watertight in normal conditions. Breathability is also rated – look for the MVTR (Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate) figure. Above 20,000g/m²/24hr means good breathability. Fabric construction Way stretch fabric gives you unrestricted movement on your bike, leaving you to focus on the trail and not on your gear. Whilst only the seat panel of the trouser is waterproof, a DWR treatment has been applied throughout to help water bead and not soak into the shorts. As with all of Endura's DWR treated garments, an environmentally friendly PFC free DWR has been used in line with Endura's commitment to reducing our environmental footprint.

The coldest I’ve ridden the old Freezing Point trousers in was -13 degrees C with another ten degrees off for wind chill at least. With some thermal knee-length bibs underneath I was toasty warm, even on an eMTB where trying to keep sweat down and stay upright on sheet ice (spiked tyres) I was pretty easy on the effort. Given how badly I feel the cold, the Primaloft Gold insulation around the thighs and kidneys does a great job of retaining heat whilst the thigh vents work well if things warm up.The legs taper sufficiently to keep the bulk of the fabric sitting snug enough to prevent any excess material from riding up and rubbing on the cranks as you pedal. They also worked well over all the knee pads I tried them with. The MT500 Burner Pants are and outstanding riding pant for downhill, enduro and trail use. And they’ve been tried and tested by Dan and Gee Atherton so you can be sure they’re going to offer top-notch performance. Durability is built-in, with the tough Nylon construction shrugging off the cuts and scrapes of regular riding. Around the seat panel, which will naturally see a lot of wear, durability is particularly good. Pants are never going to be as breezy as shorts, but the Burner Lite comes closer to any I’ve tried thanks to the lightweight material that feels breezy, and never clammy. There are also laser cut holes galore, with a score or more either side of the knee to draw in air. I’m happy in the Burner Lite up to 20°C or so, which means I’ve been wearing them all this summer without problems.

Part of the award-winning MT500 Collection, Endura have seriously turned up the "All-mountain" dial to create the latest and greatest iteration of the best-selling MT500 Waterproof Trouser II. Collection of choice for Dowhill Legends the Athertons. Full length leg zips feature improved venting options and offer easy on off with shoes on. The new, more durable ExoShell40DR™ fabric and styling update to keep them in line with the rest of the revamped MT500 waterproof collection, these are sure to be your go to wet weather trousers for rides to come. PFC-Free and built to last this product now also has strong environmental credentials and is MADEKIND. All in all, I highly rate the Endura MT500 Freezing Point Trousers. They make riding in properly-arctic conditions enjoyable, practical, comfortable, and faff-free. Just watch the sizing. The waistline is elasticated at the rear and has an adjustable aluminium loop fastening at the front, which can be a touch fiddly. The elasticated waist however, is a comfort godsend, reducing any pressure into your stomach when riding.
