The bottom line: Funny, beautifully illustrated, and full of soul, I loved Hocus Pocus: The Illustrated Novelization! It was just very “guy gets the girl and everything along with it” and it was awkward how it centered the relationship in the final moments. The dust jacket features an illustration by Grimly, but when you take this off, you see that the covers of the book are in a lovely red colour with a design in black, making it look like an older book. Feels like the movie playing as you read it; had bits not in the movie, along with bits missing from within the movie not in the book. Al margen de eso, creo que es un libro ideal para quienes amen Hocus Pocus, porque realmente es una preciosura de lectura.

Hocus Pocus book is just stunning and colourful illustration style mixed of goth Edward Gorey, Tim Burton and characters in expressionism in both dark and light world. Maybe I’m misremembering how active he was onscreen, but I reached the end of the book and thought, What the heck was Binx doing this whole time? This personally put me in the ultimate Halloween spirit and I loved carving out this bit of time at the end of each day. GRIS GRIMLY is an award-winning illustrator best known for his “macabre” yet humorous books for children and young adults. Relive the classic Halloween film Hocus Pocus with an Illustrated Novelization that retells the story alongside stunning original artwork from Gris Grimly!I think most of that judgement came from the sequel and after watching the movie sequel, I think my judgment is a little less harsh. The story really doesn’t age well, but I’m giving it 4 stars because I absolutely LOVE the illustrations by Gris Grimly. Honestly, I spent almost the entirety replaying the movie line by line as I was reading the words of the book. This deluxe novelization of the cult classic Halloween tale Hocus Pocus, illustrated by renowned artist Gris Grimly, is a must-have for fans of the film. I recently saw the book in a local Target and decided to give it a go because of my memories watching the movie with my daughter. Nothing new added to make the reading experience more interesting, but it still was an enjoyable read. The majority of pages are undamaged with some creasing or tearing, and pencil underlining of text, but this is minimal. For the first time ever, fans and readers of all ages can enjoy the full story of the immensely popular Hocus Pocus with this deluxe illustrated novelization that shows fans the likes of Max Dennison, the Sanderson Sisters, Binx the cat and other iconic characters as only celebrated, renowned artist Gris Grimly can: in all of their darkly humorous, unique gruesome glory! To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The drawing is superb, and equally first-rate are the watercolors Grimly used to color the drawings. I literally squealed with delight when I saw this had been made into a book illustrated by Gris Grimly. Reading this novel was like reliving Hocus Pocus all over again, but in book format and with gorgeous illustrations.

And there were definitely some moments that I would’ve wanted illustrations of but didn’t get, yet other illustrations in the book that either felt repetitive or that I wasn’t crazy about. Also, there are some weird lines about Allison and Max that are pretty cheesy and unnecessary, such as the line about him feeling able to conquer the world with her beside him. Max Dennison has moved from LA to Salem, and he just doesn’t believe in the parts of Salem’s history that revolves around witches. It was like I was seeing the movie in my head while I was reading and it was such a wonderful feeling. Three hundred years later, in 1993, teenage Max and his 8 year old sister Dani have just moved with their family to Salem from California.
