A murder mystery must hook the viewer to the core. I didn’t have many expectations from A Private Affair; however, the moment it began, the show completely denounced my prejudice. It comes wrapped in clever humor, sparkling suspense, and a touch of thrill.

Overall, if you get used to the style, the dramatics and the Enid Blyton style detective, A Private Affair is watchable. Barely. Why is the fact Tom cheated never elaborated on again? It definitely felt out of place that Meaghan wouldn’t have brought it up. It was just another sub-plot that didn’t really add anything to the story. So expect lots of over the top drama, running along rooftops, dangling from towers and cat and mouse chases as the intrepid duo try to catch the serial killer. A Private Affair has a scintillating pace that never goes lollygagging, even during emotional sequences. Despite being placed in the 1940s, it doesn’t feel archaic. It throws open a mystery in the first episode without wasting time on fluff, thereby allowing you to immerse in its idea. Invigorating The story is set up in the 1940s in Galicia, therefore the series has maintained a very vintage and chic vibe. The series takes us through how a young lady called Marina Quiroga, an upper-class woman, who hates how society works by giving men the dominating power sets out to prove herself and achieve her dreams by catching a serial killer who has been a threat to her city for a long time. She is also accompanied by her butler in this mission. Aura Garrido plays the role of Martina Quiroga whereas Hector the butler (a man who always can help Martina conclude the investigation) is played by Jean Reno.

Once you get passed that, as it is very annoying, there is actually a decent mystery to be solved. That is, despite the clues often coming incredibly easy to Marina while everybody stumbles around to catch up. Now, for some bad: (1) the show is full of anachronisms (as others have mentioned), normally not a big problem but in this case you start to notice them and they become a bit intrusive; (2) the main character actively and annoyingly avoids opportunities to reveal the bad guy on many occasions; (3) several times she switches from "this person must be the murderer" to "I'm going off alone with this person to find a clue" in a matter of seconds; (4) she has superhuman powers of recovery from serious injuries; (5) the ultimate motivation for the murders is not at all convincing.Garcia dazzles as Castaño in A Private Affair. His character is late to the party but not without surprises. The actor never seems in a hurry and offers enough moments to devour his representation. I felt he should have been given more screen time to further lure the audience. What Doesn’t Work for A Private Affair? When the bodies of several women begin to appear marked and creating a clear pattern, Marina decides to hunt down what is unmistakably a ruthless and lethal serial killer, but with a narcissistic edge that has managed to slip under the radar of the police, less aware than she of the latest scientific advances.

Aura Garrido ( The Innocent) as Marina Quiroga, a girl with a detective's soul but who cannot join the police force. I felt the camaraderie between Aura Garrido and Jean Reno worked as a charm for the series. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been this refreshing. Performances Scovato per caso in biblioteca, incuriosita dal fatto che fosse molto stropicciato, quindi letto da molte persone, è stato il primo che ho scelto dal bottino libresco che mi sono portata a casa dalla biblioteca. We cannot fail to point out the versatility of this actress, who here gives her character a much more stubborn, mischievous and clumsy nuance, separating it completely from her previous work. It could be said that she comes close to being unfriendly if it weren’t hers because with her innocent face she always gets away with it. I'd been looking forward to this since it was announced but it turned out to be such a disappointment. It was almost another very good Spanish series (there are so many of them) but, sadly, it misses the mark badly. As to the lead character. Well, it's not the actress's fault. She can only do what the director and the writer tells her to do. But the character is just incredibly annoying to the point we just had to give up watching after only two episodes.

It’s not that the horrors of the civil war are ignored: there’s a dreamlike scene showing the bodies of a peasant family massacred outside their home, from which a lone survivor, a little girl, gets up and goes inside. Paolo Taviani has said that the episode was a true story told to him during the making of “The Night of the Shooting Stars,” yet it’s inserted here in such a hermetic manner that what should act as a powerful antiwar statement turns into merely an oddly inserted appendage. A few side notes - Why is Abby’s secret painted as this huge terrible thing that will tear her life apart? Reading the blurb I thought it would be this huge deal but it’s mentioned probably twice in the book and doesn’t actually contribute anything to the plot. It doesn't take her long to figure out that it is a serial killer at work and all the clues lead to the ‘blue house' and an underground elite prostitution ring.
