When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book, saving recipes on Pinterest for things she'll never make, and dreaming about travelling even further south for the winter. I usually have to suspend my disbelief for insta-love plots but the chemistry between D’Vaughn and Kris were so off the charts that I hardly noticed the timeframe.

Sometimes it dragged, just slightly, I think because of the lack of outside drama like I mentioned before. When she isn't hunkered down in her writing cave, Chencia can be found with her nose in a book (or two, or three), saving recipes on Pinterest for things she’ll never make, and traveling as much as possible with her family. The aim of this romance is to be a super-warm, kind and loving space, and goodness knows that's profoundly needed. This book follows the story of D'Vaughn and Kris who are on a dating show where they are paired together to try to trick their families into believing that they are getting married in six weeks. VERDICT In a romance featuring Black joy, plus-sized beauty, and Mexican pride, the conflicts are entirely believable, and not overly dramatic, and make for a thoroughly enjoyable read. She knew how to draw me into a story from the first page, while keeping my enjoyment level up until the end. She’s looking to find true love and a real connection, and thinks going on this show will help her do just that. Rebecca Lee gives a spirited performance of this fun, low-angst love story about two Black women who meet on a reality TV show during which they have to plan a wedding and convince both their families it’s real. While I loved how relatively drama-free it was, there were instances where I felt there could have been… more. And a petition to make more reality tv shows inclusive like Instant I Do (creators of Married at First Sight, take note).Though the premise of this heartwarming rom-com from Higgins (the Vow series) occasionally strains credulity, its refreshing, well-handled focus on queer women of color finding love and affirmation more than makes up for its shortcomings.

They have the type of love where you don’t even hesitate to root for a very real wedding at the end of them only knowing each other for 4 weeks. D’Vaughn auditioned seeking motivation to come out to her religious family, while Kris hopes to find true love. Obviously in Romancelandia we are opening our minds and hearts to things that prooobably would not happen in real life. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Now even though this is a mostly low angst story, the family's response to the whole thing was way too chill to be realistic. A NEW YORK TIMES BEST ROMANCE OF 2022A TODAY SHOW BEST ROMANCE PICK FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR JASMINE GUILLORYD'Vaughn and Kris have six weeks to plan their dream wedding. What’s even better, though, we’re introduced not only to them, but to their families too (and quite a few more LGBT characters while we’re at it). The only real problems for me came from consistency issues surrounding the technical reality show aspects that I think should have been caught by an editor.
