Soy fan del autor ...este es un Hardy que como siempre “atrapa”...lleno de giros y sorpresas ...que final!!!!!Y si no has leído nunca nada de él ,sin duda este es un excelente comienzo. The sudden arrival of unexpected news is also a favourite device of the sensation novel. On the very day that Swithin is setting off to secretly marry Viviette he receives an inheritance, but only on the condition that he remain single. On virtually the same day Viviette also receives a letter from her brother Louis Granville (who has not been mentioned in the novel up to that point) announcing his arrival to thwart her romance. In some ways it's comforting to see that one of the best writers in the English language was capable of producing something so bad.

Un'unione osteggiata dal fato e dagli uomini, vuoi per la giovinezza del ragazzo, vuoi per la differanze di casta. VI. Swithin’s new telescope doesn’t work, but Lady Constantine agrees to buy him an ‘equatorial’ viewing instrument. The new project energises her.

La vegetazione incolta sembra voler osteggiare fisicamente Viviette ad ogni sua visita notturna nella torre, stessa cosa fanno le tanto amate e temute stelle che distraggono l'astrologo dalla sua presenza fisica. While Swithin challenges Viviette’s faith as well as her ideas of right and wrong, she finds that she still worries about what others think of her and feels the need to act secretly. This is true even though she has no real friends or acquaintances within the village. Still, what would the neighbors think if she had a romantic interest so soon after hearing of her husband’s death abroad? What would they think if they knew she was in love with a man a decade younger than her (he’s in his early 20s and she’s in her early 30s)? What would they think if they knew she was in love with someone beneath her social level? The characters go to ridiculously great lengths to hide their meetings and feelings for each other, even at times when nobody is watching. Just when everything looks as if everything’s going to work out, another obstacle appears in the path. But all these problems could have been solved so easily if Viviette would just have acquiesced to allow their relationship to be known publicly from the beginning.

XXIX. Viviette and Tabitha divide their bracelets into two – which thwarts Louis in his suspicions. But he vows to set a trap for Viviette and Swithin. Published in 1882, his ninth novel, Two on a Tower is Hardy's most complete and daring treatment of the theme of love between characters of different classes and ages. Viviette, the married lady of the manor, is nine years older than Swithin St Cleve, the 20-year old `Adonis-astronomer', a `lad of striking beauty, scientific attainments, and cultivated bearing', the orphaned son of a curate who married the daughter of a family of farmers. The story of their love, both on, with an emphasis that was not wholly playful.‘You are the most ungallant youth I ever met with; but IThere is a size at which dignity begins," he exclaimed; "further on there is a size at which grandeur begins; further on there is a size at which solemnity begins; further on, a size at which awfulness begins; further on, a size at which ghastliness begins. That size faintly approaches the size of the stellar universe. So am I not right in saying that those minds who exert their imaginative powers to bury themselves in the depths of that universe merely strain their faculties to gain a new horror?” VII. She decides to buy the new instrument for herself, and let him have use of it. But local gossip about their relationship begins, so she puts the whole project into his name.

She smiled through her perplexity as she took his hand.‘The oddest things happen to me, dear Swithin,’ she
