they don’t have the patience to sit down and complete it or the fine motor skills to do detailed work.

Itsy Bitsy Spider tells the adventures of a Spider, named Itsy Bitsy (or Incy Wincy – more popular in England) who is going up and down, and up again, as the weather is chaining. Yes I am all about hands on , playful learning so most of the ideas are play dough, painting and active learning so will be perfect for 3 year olds (and toddlers too for that matter! It was first published in 1920, more as a song for adults in the book “Camp and Camino in Lower California” titled as “Spider Song” with the words “blooming, bloody” instead of “Itsy Wincy”. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged.Because Manu is two he cannot create the spider himself, so I provided two balls of black Playdough to form the spider, then I showed him our plastic spider and showed him how the spider had legs, so we used the pipe cleaner or straws to create the legs.

I had done this when Manu was a baby and each time we have played with it is a different experience. Ohhh I had purple glitter because it was a spooky spider but I’d I changed it to blue, then it would act as the rain! I loved that after a few times of reading it left a few words out in the spider response and my son was finishing it up! To create a mini-beast habitat gather logs, wooden pallets, house bricks, plant pots, bamboo, hollow tubes, leaves, grasses, sticks pebbles. Using a colander, create a water sensory bin, practice pouring skills as well as taking the time to splash and start learning “sink or float” concepts.A collection of Incy Wincy (Itsy Bitsy) Spider activities and resources to encourage creativity, counting and literacy development for young children! Fill the bottle with water if you want the glow stick to sink or leave it empty if you want it to float. The kids have to mimic their movements while singing the song, a very entertaining activity, useful to improve their manual dexterity. I set out black sparkly play dough, pipe cleaners, googly eyes and a book with a spider poem (Mad about Minibeasts) to inspire some spider creations!

I dumped my spooky sensory bottle and replaced the purple glitter with blue confetti to make this one. We made handprints in black paint and then overlapped them and stuck them together to create spider shapes. This fantastic Counting Activity Resource Pack from Twinkl has been created specially in conjunction with The Imagination Tree, after I asked if they could be done! Glue in particular is a tricky one to learn so I decided to use some rope I had laying around and a spider from the pack I got for our sensory bin and our sensory bottle.
