Description

Crimp tools are a range of handheld devices that can join components by crimping (compressing) them together. This is known as 'cold welding' - opposed to hot welding that uses heat, cold welding uses pressure to create a seal that is not easily broken. Pastry crimpers tend to boast a similar design, with a wheel at one end of a long handle. They can vary in length, and shorter crimpers tend to offer more control when crimping or slicing smaller pieces of food – such as pasta or individual pies.

When joining segments of tubular sheet metal pipe, such as for smoke pipes for wood stoves, downspouts for rain gutters, or for installation of ventilation ducting, one end of a tube is treated with a crimping tool to make a slip joint into the next section of duct. The joint will not be liquid-tight but will be adequate for conveying low pressure fluids. Crimp joints may be arranged to prevent accumulation of dirt.Crimp tools are specifically designed for crimping, which makes them a must-have when working with certain connectors. Electricians use them to attach various connectors to the ends of wires and cables. Some crimpers come with interchangeable wheels so you can change the pattern. While large crimps look brilliant on pies and pasties, pasta pieces look better with smaller crimps. Durability In plumbing, there is a trend in some jurisdictions towards the use of crimped fittings to join metallic pipes, replacing the traditional soldering or "sweating" of joints. This trend is driven in part by increased restrictions or bans of processes involving open flames, which may now require costly special permits.

Metals are joined via a special connector. Stripped wire (often stranded) is inserted through the correctly sized opening of the connector, and a crimper is used to tightly squeeze the opening against the wire. Depending on the type of connector used, it may be attached to a metal plate by a separate screw or bolt or it could be simply screwed on using the connector itself to make the attachment like an F connector. In jewelry manufacture, crimp beads, or crimp tubes, are used to make secure joints in fine wire, such as used in clasps or tie loops. A crimped lead (or other soft metal) seal is attached to secure wires used to secure fasteners in aircraft, or to provide visual evidence of tampering when securing a utility meter or as a seal on cargo containers. Pneumatic crimp tool - The most powerful type of crimp tool available, pneumatic crimp tools bring serious force to the most demanding applications. They are available as handheld or as heavy-duty bench-mounted models. When choosing a crimp tool, it can be hard to know what type is right for you. Here are a few of the most common types available: A pastry crimper is a handy kitchen gadget that you won’t realise you need until you try to make a pie without one! Able to both slice pastry and seal the crust with a gorgeous crimped effect, a pastry crimper is a must-have for keen pastry makers.

Hydraulic crimp tool - Similar in function to electric crimp tools, hydraulic crimp tools are powered by a hydraulic fluid system and require next to no physical effort to operate. This makes them ideal for heavy duty applications. A crimping tool or crimp tool is used to created crimps. [1] [2] Crimping tools range in size from small handheld devices to benchtop machines used for industrial purposes. [3] [2] Uses [ edit ] Crimped connectors on hydraulic hose They are known for creating strong holds and powerful seals in all kinds of wiring applications. When used properly, crimp tools create seals impermeable to moisture, air, and corrosion. Electric crimp tool - Electric crimp tools are battery or mains operated to help ease the burden on the user when performing heavy-duty crimping work. It has been suggested that this article be merged with Crimp (electrical). ( Discuss) Proposed since August 2023.Handheld crimp tool - Handheld crimp tools are the most common type available. They look and function similarly to pliers, and do not require external power to operate.
