The End Of All Things is one of the best songs on the record, and it’s because it resonates so well with what the topic of the song is. Jus is an occasional rock guitarist and has worked professionally for a number of rock acts in her youth (performance and PR). If there’s a charismatic live track on here it has to be ‘When The World Comes Apart’ -unmistakably more stage than desert. Bed of Thorns” has an almost Middle-Eastern feel (as does the epic, almost hymnal “Broken”), with sparse electronic percussion complimenting the female vocalizing that runs through the track. Pretty unintentionally hilarious cover photo too, proving that with Numan some things do stay the same.

No More Lies" released in 1988 as a standalone single, later repackaged later packaged with the collaboration album Automatic which charted in 1989 at 59. A fan of vintage guitars, analogue synths and reel to reel tape machines, today, her musical interests remain wide and varied – think rock / prog / electronic / ambient / classical and she enjoys providing input to TEC with a specialist interest in classic-era post-punk synth rock/pop.I have the feeling that everyone involved here had the idea that they were on to something of great quality. Numan's appropriation of Arabic musical patterns, textures and instruments can make for mildly uncomfortable listening at first, but on repeated plays these are the moments that really stand out.

Gary Numan: Savage (Songs from a Broken World) review – pop

Like most Numan albums the songs are somewhat interchangeable but there are a lot of neat little unique bits from one song to the next. Although it is not considered an official remake and is remixed by Andy Gray, it was a ground up production with a complete overhaul in production to the original. Imagine ‘The End of Things’ were the camera – it would sweep in over the landscape providing visual insight. Numan’s dystopian worldview hasn’t been exactly cheered by climate change or leaving Britain for Los Angeles, only to find a Trumpocalypse. The results – an eclectic mix of the angelic-like choral tapestry set against the robust dance-driven beats. Indeed “Politics are screaming…” and thankfully, in this instance, it’s nothing to be turned off by. The industrial-inflected sound Numan has explored since Sacrifice remains a bedrock, but "Bed Of Thorns" and "Pray For The Pain You Serve" realise the concept neatly, blending crunchy synth riffs and brooding choruses with fragments of Arabic melody. If you have never listened to Numan, try a punt, you will not regret it, in the future , hopefully more to come.

The Billboard dance/electronic chart's number one position for September 15 was held by Calvin Harris, whose album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. Savage is a compelling cautionary tale of what may happen if we’re too complacent to give a damn about future generations. He’s also been a supporter of a variety of humanitarian causes, particularly concerning animal rights — a scan of his Twitter feed shows frequent retweets of PETA posts. The journey continues with tuneful layering and a clever integration of eastern flavour that momentarily sounds dissonant before the blend is perfected. I don’t even think to myself that I need a certain kind of sound, I’ll just see what I can find and almost 100% of the time I’ll open it, choose a plugin and find something amazing.Savage imagines the planet as a desolate, desert wasteland,” he explains in the album’s press materials. I would describe the music as darkwave, and whilst Numan doesn't really innovate in the genre, his voice has withstood the ravages of time remarkably well and the songwriting is really good.

None of the prior albums, including 'Savage' was made for pop radio stations; although 'My Name Is Ruin' is most definitely the catchiest song here. By the way, this album also made it into our article ‘ The best Synth Pop and genre-related albums 2017‘. It gives Numan himself something to be especially proud of, given his daughter, Persia, provides the unique backing vocals on the track.
