But I liked how it tied up all of the different plot lines that had been introduced, and subverted expectations in some ways.

Since this child got sent off to go find Bigby, I wonder if they will play a larger role in the future. I'm rounding up to a full 5 stars for the hell of it and because it's one of those books where I would always be thinking about what would happen next, even when I set it down.This compendium captures all the branching fables that intersect our heroes' stories - from Jack of Fables and The Literals, to the classic short story Werewolves of the Heartland. We start off with a (possible) murder mystery that does a good job of introducing the characters and the situation of this world. The big bad Wolf as a noirish Detective has to be my favorite so far, but everything in this compendium has been so far. The show's creators, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, stated that they "read a couple issues" of Fables but believe that while the two concepts are "in the same playground", they are "telling a different story". The result is a 150-volume-spanning asthonishing work of art (drawings are really good, sometimes even comparable to potraits from an exibition), which also inspired many famous tv shows after it ("Once Upon a Time", to name the most prominent and bleak one).

I appreciated the quick pacing, and the resolution to this mystery was satisfying and made a lot of sense with what we had learned so far while also remaining a surprise. The story's been adapted for the comic by Lilah Sturges, who has previously written for the Fables series, and Dave Justus, staying otherwise true to the game's story but exploring some characters and back story in more depth.
