Longevity– if I use it consistently, washday after washday, will it dry my hair out, weigh it down, cause any scalp issues etc? Does it still look good on day 2 and 3, as it did on washday? Thanks so much for posting this! It’s super helpful. I’ve been using the Tresemme Volumizing mousse for 15 years. They just changed the formula & it is awful. The old ingredients made my curls so soft. The new formula makes my hair frizzy & it feels like straw. Price– Pantene Defined Curls Mousse was incredibly affordable! Ideally I want to find a replacement that is around the same price point. If you are someone who likes to know what you put on your face then fragrance is not your best friend - there's no way to know what’s really in it. But I reached out to Pantene directly and finally got confirmation that yes, all our fears are true. And Pantene Defined Curls Mousse has been discontinued! I don’t know what to say, other than in all the ways, it’s literally an end of an era! Here’s what they said: Exactly what it sounds: nice smelling stuff put into cosmetic products so that the end product also smells nice. Fragrance in the US and parfum in the EU is a generic term on the ingredient list that is made up of 30 to 50 chemicals on average (but it can have as much as 200 components!). PAIR IT UP: Try with our Herbal Essences Jojoba Oil & Lavender Curls Collection for the complete experienceOver the last couple of months I’ve been trying out countless other mousses to compare and try to find a like-for-like replacement. But there’s only so many times a week I can wash my hair, and I’ve got almost 20 different mousses to try, so it’s taking some time. So citric acid is an exfoliant, that can - just like other AHAs - gently lift off the dead skin cells of your skin and make it more smooth and fresh. Cosmetic chemist, Colin wrote a great article about formaldehyde and DMDM Hydantoin. He writes that formaldehyde is the perfect example of " the dose makes the poison" principle. It's a natural stuff that can also be found in fresh fruits and vegetables, and eating it in tiny amounts is totally ok. However, in larger amounts ( according to Wikipedia30 mL of a solution containing 37% formaldehyde) it's deadly. Thanks for the recommendation- I’ve got a bottle of the curl whip in the cupboard and this has persuaded me to give it another try- my results weren’t great first time round! So I thought, let’s test together! If you’ve tried mousses that have or haven’t worked for you, share your results and recommendations in the comments on this post, so we can all figure this out together.

Good old water, aka H2O. The most common skincare ingredient of all. You can usually find it right in the very first spot of the ingredient list, meaning it’s the biggest thing out of all the stuff that makes up the product.

But I thought it would be helpful to share with you the criteria I’m looking at when testing and comparing these new mousses to the Pantene Defined Curls Mousse. Because it’s not all about the ingredients or results. Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse has long been the best like-for-like replacement for the Pantene Defined Curls Mousse. It’s not available everywhere though, I think mostly/just in the USA and Canada. So if it’s available where you are, I recommend switching to that. However, in conversations I’ve had with some of you recently. I’ve heard that the ingredients and formula of the Herbal Essence Totally Twisted Mousse has changed as well! The generic term for nice smelling stuff put into cosmetic products so that the end product also smells nice. It is made up of 30 to 50 chemicals on average.

Super common little helper ingredient thathelps products to remain nice and stable for a longer time. It does so by neutralizing the metal ions in the formula (that usually get into there from water) that would otherwise cause some not so nice changes. Results– are my results the same as they are when I use Pantene Defined Curls Mousse? Are they as defining and long-lasting? Does it give the same hold? Some images in this post are from Pantene Defined Curls Mousse, other images are from the new mousse I’ve discovered that is the best like-for-like replacement. Can you tell the difference? However, Colins argues that in the case of formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, formaldehyde is released slowly and the skin has probably not evolved to deal with that. The lingeringformaldehyde might be toxic tothe Langerhans Cells that are important for the skin's defense system. Another potential issue is that formaldehyde-releasers might also release other things while reacting with amino acids in the skin that is probably the explanation why some people are not allergic to formaldehyde but are allergic to formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. These are all theories, far from proven facts, but we feel that there are some justified reasons whyformaldehyde-releasing preservatives andDmdm Hydantoin count as controversial. For years, I used the Pantene Perfect Curls Shampoo and Conditioner and the Pantene Defined Curls Mousse (No. 5) my curls always looked consistently amazing! It wasn’t until Pantene discontinued the Perfect Curls Shampoo and Conditioner that I had to put more thought into what hair care products I used.I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Wella curl mousse (Professionals Care EIMI Nutricurls Boost Bounce Curl) please. And many of you are saying you’re not getting the same results. Please comment on the post and let me (and other readers) know if it’s still available where you are, or if you’ve noticed a change in formula. I’ve already tried quite a few and have my thoughts. If you think it would be helpful, then I’ll happily write a post. But let me know x I’ve been using the Pantene Defined Curls No. 5 Mousse for almost 24 years! When people ask me if I could only use one styling product for the rest of my life, what would it be?

The small sister of Butane (once carbon shorter chain length alkane), Propane is also a gas used as a propellant incosmetic products. I would highly recommend Wella Deluxe Definition and Protection mousse. I have tried so many mousses and gels after Pantene discontinued their mousse and all of them have been unsuitable for my frizzy, unruly curls.

It gives you a maximum hold with zero crunch. It reduces frizz by protecting your curls from humidity (for 24 whole hours!), leaving those curls looking well-defined and invincible. Plus, it’s a major time saver. Shake it, foam it, and work it through wet hair, then air dry. If you’ve got the time, diffuse on low heat to really bring out the spring in your curls. Make sure you take a moment to enjoy the fragrant notes of fresh berries. Then discover how good it feels to use a curl boosting mousse that's certified PETA Cruelty-Free, paraben-free, dye-free, and color-safe. A few years ago the Pantene Defined Curls Mousse formula changed, ever so slightly. I didn’t notice much difference in the consistency of the formula, or the results. So I carried on using, loving and regularly recommending it on my blog, social media and in Curl Clinics. The amount offormaldehyde used in cosmetics either neat or throughformaldehyde-releasing preservatives is tiny. Probably that is why the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Broad concluded both in 1988 and in 2008 that DMDM Hydantoin is " safe as used in cosmetics".
