I liked “Karate Kid” the original movie and will watch it whenever it pops up on TV. I found the movie provided some excellent life lessons. I don’t remember much about #2 or #3 and never even heard about “Cobra Kai” before now. I think the blues still speaks to kids today", said Ry Cooder, who performed the music with Steve Vai. "It's so old that it's new." [7] I’m a child of the 80s and love the Karate Kid franchise, and get super excited every time a new season of Cobra Kai comes out, so of course I would love this book written by Daniel-San himself! I got choked up a time or two as it became evident, and impacting, the relationship --friendship-- that grew between Macchio and Pat Morita. The funeral service for Morita - where Zabka showed, as well. That did me in.

There were other near-misses. In 1994, Macchio was under contract to make television for NBC. He filmed several episodes of a show that was never broadcast. That same summer, NBC created a sitcom about six close pals in New York, and a drama about a hospital emergency room in Chicago. Macchio exhales. “I was on an overall deal with the studio that was casting both Friends and ER. And somehow I wasn’t put in either of them. But do you want to know the truth of it? From where I’m sitting now? It was the best thing. The right people get the right parts.” I'd like to thank Edelweiss and the publisher for allowing me a chance to read this book before it drops. I’m glad you mentioned Miyagi because no conversation about the book would be complete without mentioning Pat Morita and his influence on your life. You refer to him as your “forever sensei,” and while you list of all of the projects that have sprung from the Karate Kid universe, you say that one you would love to see happen is the Miyagi origin story. Is anyone working on that? I liked the way he covered his early acting career including landing the part as Daniel in the Karate Kid and the impact that role has had on his entire life...even now, decades later. I also liked the way he mentions the other cast members. It was sweet to see that they seem like family.Macchio began tap dancing lessons at the age of three and was discovered by a talent agent when he was 16 years old. Ralph Macchio ( / ˈ m ɑː k i oʊ/ MAH-kee-oh; [1] born December 28, [2] 1950) is an American comic book editor and writer who has held many positions at Marvel Comics, including executive editor. Macchio is commonly associated with Daredevil, Thor, the Spider-Man line of comics, and the Ultimate Marvel line. Stylist Matthew Marden; grooming by Elizabeth Yoon using Shiseido and Sachajuan; digital tech by Sarah Keum; photo assistant Jan Erting; retouching by Jill LewisArlen Roth; Ry Cooder (1985), "Crossroads Ist Original Main Duel, Arlen Roth and Ry Cooder 1985", SoundCloud This is not a memoir of Ralph’s life so much as it is a memoir of his life coexisting with Daniel LaRusso (how he came into the role and it’s effects thereafter). Or, as one could say, different but same. In this book, Ralph weaves together his experience on the original films and Cobra Kai interspersed with his life at that particular time. He includes anecdotes about his costars (including the cast of Cobra Kai), his hilarious thoughts on theories of “who is the real bully”, and encounters with fans (some even by name - how cool!) - to illustrate just how much these characters mean to people. Ralph also stresses how important the legacy of The Karate Kid is to him. He describes how Cobra Kai came to be, his initial reaction and protection of the Daniel-Miyagi relationship. I found myself starting to cry when he spoke of his friendship with Pat Morita and I think that speaks to the point of the magic they captured in their respective roles. In 2022, Macchio published the memoir Waxing On: The Karate Kid and Me ( Dutton), in which he reflects upon the legacy of the Karate Kid films and Cobra Kai. [27] Anagnoson, Alex (December 14, 2021). Someone asked me this question: When did you go from, “Oh, God, not this again,” to fully embracing Karate Kid and its impact on your life? I never was like that, you know? I never didn’t want to talk about that movie. That’s ridiculous. I don’t know why actors don’t want to talk about their biggest hits, even if it’s because they’re trying to do something new now. For me, Daniel LaRusso has been such an inspiration to people of all ages. People come up to me with tears in their eyes, telling me how they watched the movie with their dad or their mom, or they tell me that they wish they had a Mr. Miyagi in their life. Moving forward, I just don’t want to take any of these moments for granted. I may not have done that 15 or 20 years ago. So, my legacy is to stop and really embrace all of that. I wanted to write a very specific memoir about what it’s been like to walk in these shoes,” Macchio tells The Hollywood Reporter of his ambitions for the tome, from Penguin Random House imprint Dutton. “I wanted to make it a conversation, and I think we achieved that with some really good, never-before-told stories about this 40-year journey that is still writing itself.”

He married his high school sweetheart (and he STILL lives a half hour from my parents and near friends) and has a great family. You’ll get that from this book. BE PREPARED FOR TONS OF REPETITION to a later chapter, the next chapter, I’ll get to it next, remember last chapter, this chapter of my life.

Macchio was cast as Jeremy Andretti for a season in the television series Eight Is Enough. [1] He next won the role of Johnny Cade in the 1983 film The Outsiders.
