I have my desktop plugged into my TV as a third monitor and I use this not for my laptop, but as a way of controlling the computer wirelessly on the sofa. I should add that the main space is really for laptops or keyboards around 40cm wide. my wireless keyboard is 45cm so it overhangs a bit.
