I loved the relationship with the nanny they were both willing to sacrifice so much even to the point of no return. There’s very little nuance in my early drafts. All those poignant thematic bits are usually buried, and it takes me several passes to mine them out. Even then, I still need at least two passes late in the game to smooth out the rough edges at the line level.

I loved Vero and Finlay they had a good banter that kept the crime plotline light when it would otherwise be too dark for me to enjoy. Finlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero are in sore need of a girls’ weekend away. They plan a trip to Atlantic City, but odds are―seeing as it’s actually a cover story to negotiate a deal with a dangerous loan shark, save Vero’s childhood crush Javi, and hunt down a stolen car―it won’t be all fun and games. When Finlay’s ex-husband Steven and her mother insist on tagging along too, Finlay and Vero suddenly have a few too many meddlesome passengers along for the ride. This is one of those books where I would never do the things that the main character does but still I had so much fun laughing at her, her bad judgement, and her predicaments. Before the story even starts Finlay Donovan has gotten arrested for putting Play Dough in the exhaust pipe of her ex husband's lover/fiancée's tailpipe and been thrown out of and banned from Panera, for throwing soup on a customer. So see, I don't think Finlay makes good decisions and it's immediately obvious that she's not about to turn over a new leaf. Well I’m Rafiki and this book will be Simba anytime any of my suburban book club member friends (“SBCMFs”) ask me what they should read next in 2021.

I loved it SO MUCH. This is a fun murder/mystery/comedy about a writer named Finlay Donovan who is discussing the plot of her next murder mystery novel in a Panera Bread with her agent when a woman overhears her conversation and thinks she’s actually a contract killer and offers her a huge amount of money to kill her husband. 🤯

Definitely Vero. Not only did she step in to help Finlay with the kids but she also stood up for her to her ex, and she supported her through the very end. This book is so FUN, I adore all the characters, it’s so fast paced I easily finished this within 24 hours cause I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely adore Finlay, Vero, and Julian, the characters are so wholesome and relatable in this book. I adored Finlay and Julian in this book, they were too cute 🥺 and Vero is one of my favorite side characters ever??? As a start to a series, it succeeded in making me fall in love with the characters. I cannot wait for more! She is a newly divorced mom of two. Her ex-husband just got engaged. The pile of unpaid bills is getting taller and larger. And she’s already stretched her publishers’ deadline to the max. And she hasn’t even started working on her new novel.
