Die Kritiker überschlagen sich, doch die Sache hat einen Haken: Miss Buncles Schilderungen sind so authentisch, dass sich die Bewohner von Silverstream prompt wiedererkennen, und nicht alle sind glücklich. I should mention that this was the first Persephone book I've bought and read, and that I was impressed by the presentation. Hathaway's (new vicar) uncle, the new vicar has turned over all his wealth and earthly goods to his Uncle Mike for the term of one year to see if he can live on the minute stipend he will be earning in Silverstream. Miss Buncle's Book is a light-hearted, very English cosy type of story with a lovely old-fashioned feel to it . I'm sure there are about a dozen of you who can name a book with this same storyline right now, but I've never run into one before.

I read somewhere that this book was described as a "cosy" read and I think that is the perfect word to use for Miss Buncle's Book.Second, you wouldn't think that a book about a lady writing a book would be riveting--but it totally was! Ein kleines englisches Dorf steht kopf, als sich dessen Bewohner plötzlich als Figuren in einem Roman wiederfinden.

There are times when you feel like you're just strolling through the village and then there are times you feel you have just run the length of the village twice without stopping. She doesn’t need to invent a thing, although she does produce a pied piper who gets some of her neighbours moving! In reality, the very real Colonel Weatherhead from the village reads the book, and enjoys it mightily, and not even aware that Major Waterfoot is a caricature of him in the book, has the smashing idea to propose marriage to a neighbor, Dorothea Bold.
