Les ronds de Bokeh sont très bons: bien circulaires au centre, mais tronqués sur les bords (cat’s eye). Samyang's Linear STM (Stepping Motor) satisfies both photographers and videographers by quieter and more accurate control of large and heavy focusing lens groups.

Special lenses are responsible for reducing unwanted artefacts, controlling distortion and rendering detail and sharpness. Thanks to the design freedoms afforded by the mirrorless camera configuration, we are becoming accustomed to seeing more exotic lenses, especially zooms. The latter is the result of Tamron’s long relationship with Nikon which has given it access to the Z mount protocols and it’s although noting that Tamron earlier made a 35-150mm f/2. And, of course, carrying a set of fast primes would be a much heavier load… with a lot of time-wasting involved when changing focal lengths compared to the convenience of simply zooming.Looking at the available high-resolution imagery of this lens, we see decent resolution, little to no chromatic aberrations and at full aperture a nice blur, which of course you would actually expect from a lens with such high brightness. Very good results in term of sharpness, background blur smoothness and color rendition in video, very nice rendering for portraits. Pulled the trigger on the Samyang when it came out in Europe and was on sale from a retailer for 1099€. The zooming collar is quite wide, so it affords a firm grip, and the zooming mechanism is telescopic so the lenses increases in physical length as the focal length is increase. I wish there was a lens out there that fit my needs so well that I could feel giddy like a little girl, too.

Nice focal range but I feel that for event photography you need 2 lenses anyway to also cover wide-angle, so 24-70/16-35 and 70-200. Lens for Sony was released 6 April 2023, which is around eight months after the previous launch of the second generation AF 85mm F/1.

The lens is remarkably versatile as an all-rounder with a fast maximum aperture and provides solutions for photographers seeking to avoid changing lenses. Distortion is very well-controlled with a tiny amount of barrel-type bending at the wide-angle end which then becomes pincushion-type bending from around 50mm. The manual focusing collar is also a decent size and has a nicely weighted feel despite being an electronic ‘fly-by-wire’ control. It was clearly designed for a portrait photographer, but the wide zoom range is also useful for everyone shooting commercials, events and travel imagery. In addition, the excellent optical design of the lens provides superior resolution right to the edge, and the Linear Stepping Motor allows faster and more accurate AF performance.
