The Glycerin also shines in transition. Heel strikers and midfoot strikes alike will find an easy transition from landing to toe off thanks to the smooth-ride foam and flexible feel. Brooks got the comfort and luxury concept right with this shoe. As the opening line states, those who crave comfort will likely be pleased with this shoe. This shoe will outlast most other running shoes while staying in good condition. Brooks has a warranty for 300-500 miles and will replace them for free if they don’t last that long, but I’m sure anyone can easily double that figure. With sustainability in mind The updated design of the foam does cut down on some of the weight and offers a slightly softer ride. However, the difference during side-by-side runs, has been negligible.

While the standard Glycerin model is a maximum-cushioned, neutral trainer, the Brooks Glycerin GTS 19 and 20 (newly released in July 2022) are classed as stability trainers. Stability running shoes such as these are ideal for runners with overpronation, who need more ankle support and a less flexible sole. The BioMoGo part of BioMoGo DNA means that in an anaerobic landfill, the midsole will decompose within 20 years, compared to the thousands of years that it takes other midsole materials to decompose.Designers also lightened the load from 17 to 18. Brooks says the men’s Brooks Glycerin 18 drops almost half an ounce from the previous version, and the women’s Brooks Glycerin 18 is down about .2 ounces.

The redesigned mesh upper sports fewer overlays, and the sidewall pattern of the midsole is slightly different. Neither of those changes affect the overall ride. You don’t need to worry about the midsole breaking down prematurely because you don’t live in an anaerobic landfill (hopefully)! The BioMoGo technology is not patented because Brooks wants other companies to be more environmentally friendly. Best use for Brook Glycerin 18 The stretch mesh upper feels and looks pretty nice too. No hot spots, no pressure points whatsoever, and I think it can accommodate a large number of foot types, from wide to narrow(ish). It’s a simple, yet clean-looking shoe that has gradually dropped the gaudy, overlay-happy BS of previous models. Everyone’s all about midsoles and plates nowadays, but I appreciate a good, clean upper. Natural movement of the foot is enhanced with the flex grooves that support runners through their gait cycle and keep heel-to-toe transitions smooth as ever.Brooks Glycerin 19 was designed to have all the comfort of its predecessor, the ultra-cushioned Brooks Ghost, but with a lighter weight and higher energy return. Through its DNA LOFT cushioning, this running shoe is built for smooth heel to toe transitions and its rounded heel offers better support and alignment to protect the joints. Disclaimer: I love these shoes so much that It may sound as if Brooks is paying me to write this, or that I know nothing about shoes, but no, Brooks is not paying me, and I have experience with over 100 different running shoe models. AUSTIN: I’d prefer a bit more response from the Glycerin 18, but I knew before my first run that this model is touted as high cushion. Which means a little more sink and a little less pop. As Adrienne noted in her review, I’m loving the responsive ride of the New Balance 1080 v10, which combines high cushioning with stellar snap. I’d prefer an 8 mm drop, but that’s a minor critique based strictly on general preference. Shop Brooks Glycerin 18 Brooks Glycerin 18 Conclusion This long piece of rubber makes ride transitions smoother and also increases midfoot stability and structure because there is less flex in the midfoot.

An issue with the traction is that the Glycerin has small grooves in the outsole which collect small pebbles. This decreases the lifespan of the outsole, disrupts the traction slightly, and just feels gross underfoot. This is only a small gripe since the pebbles it collects are so small. Guaranteed durability The Glycerin 17 inherits most features from its predecessor including the upper, midsole, and outsole design. Heavier runners and lighter runners alike will enjoy the Glycerin 18. The Glycerin works best as a daily road running shoe, but can really handle anything if you push it. Running enthusiasts who enjoy the Nike Downshifter, Mizuno Wave Rider and New Balance Fresh Foam Arishi will also enjoy the Brooks Glycerin 17 for the way it supports dynamic, multi-directional movement. Brooks Glycerin 17 vs Brooks Glycerin 16The upper looks nice and is hella comfortable, however, I wish it were a little more dialed in. This may be more Adrienne than Brooks. The Glycerin is a daily trainer, and for an experienced runner, the ride will feel a little bit slow on faster runs. However, the Glycerin has a more adaptive and snappy ride than other shoes with its level of cushion. The Glycerin 18 also showcases a double-jacquard mesh for some additional stretch in the midfoot and forefoot. The company logo, a thin overlay, adds a touch of structure to the midfoot. The upper exhibits a fresh, clean look, unencumbered by unnecessary clutter that adds weight and the possibility for pressure or hot spots. My feet felt secure every run, and the DNA Loft midsole makes for less ground feel. Shop Brooks Glycerin 18 The Brooks Glycerin 18 is a dependable, easy riding running shoe that we think is perfect for the bulk of your training miles. The big differences are that the Ghost has a combination of DNA Loft and BioMogo in its midsole while the Glycerin has a full DNA Loft midsole and the Glycerin has a softer, more comfortable upper than the Ghost.

The DNA Loft foam performs for all types of runs, and holds up well to the high mileage most people will throw at it. However, it also works remarkably well when the pace was turned up a little. I’ve never ever thought of the Glycerin as a super soft ride. It’s always been one of the firmest max-cushioned trainers. Even with the smaller grooves, though, Brooks says there wasn’t any perceived loss of smoothness in the ride. It’s unclear exactly how that affects the ride, but the Glycerin 18 delivers such a smooth transition and such good flexibility that the change doesn’t seem to matter. The outsole uses plenty of soft, blown rubber. Brooks prefers using a softer type of outsole rubber to soften landings and increase the ground feel.

Rawlings Running Cap

The Glycerin may be sleek, but it is certainly heavy-duty. All the materials in the shoe are very high quality and durable. The Glycerin 19 rides smooth, really smooth. It’s one of the smoothest-riding, max-cushioned trainers on the market due to its single density midsole and its outsole configuration.
