Overall, if you’re looking for a portable yet powerful telescope that delivers excellent performance at an affordable price point, then the Celestron TravelScope 70 is an excellent choice. Its compact size makes it easy to transport to any location where you can enjoy some stargazing without compromising on image quality or stability. With its high-quality eyepiece and finder scope plus impressive magnification range capabilities – this model is sure to exceed your expectations! A mount is considered an essential part of a telescope. It holds the weight of the telescope while you look through the eyepiece and keeps the focal point in focus – ideally without any wobbling or shaking. There are two main types of telescope mounts: altitude-azimuth and equatorial.

After my first half hour using the telescope, I was exhausted trying to work around its awful mount. However, in that time, I was able to observe the Double Cluster in Perseus, the Orion Nebula, and the Andromeda Galaxy, and I was pleased enough by them to not immediately write off the telescope as a failure. This Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope comes with a sturdy table top mount that swivels for smooth adjustment. The mount can also be connected. Combined, the telescope and mount weigh 6.5 lbs in total. Lastly, while the focal ratio of f/5.7 makes this scope quite fast, allowing for brighter views of deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae, it also means that there is a smaller margin of error when focusing. This can make it more difficult for beginners who are still learning how to properly focus their telescopes. However, with practice and patience, focusing should become easier over time. The Celestron ExploraScope 22103 114AZ Reflector Telescope is priced like a beginner’s telescope, but it has some shortcomings that make it a poor choice except for those who really want to learn. On the plus side, it has a stable mount and tripod, so you won’t have to worry as much about that part interfering with your operation. There’s a 114-millimeter aperture, which is fairly large for the price. The included 2x Barlow lens is a nice touch, increasing what you can do with this telescope and its eyepieces without driving the price up too much. We know how to narrow down the products that best fit YOUR needs, rather than push something simply because it’s easy. Once we’ve done that, we ensure you understand WHY we’re recommending the product by teaching you the concepts behind the product and in the process, we demystify all the terminology. Leaving you with confidence knowing you are making the right decision and one that is perfect for you and your goals of viewing the night sky!Day-to-Night Performance – Use your Travel Scope™ for celestial viewing at night or for observation of birds, nature, and wildlife during the day The included finder is a plastic 5×24. These 5x24s have a singlet(!) plastic objective lens, an aperture stop to control the resulting aberrations that make the image unusably dim, and an eyepiece with a drinking-straw-like field of view. It is less effective than those toy pirate telescopes made for little kids. Not only is the finder useless, but it’s also completely pointless, as the scope’s wide field at low power means it doesn’t really even need a finder. It basically acts as its own finder. Secondly, the included diagonal that comes with the scope is of lower quality than what one might expect from a travel scope in this price range. While it’s serviceable and will allow you to view objects right-side-up (which is important for terrestrial viewing), it may introduce some image distortion or reduce overall image brightness.

So, what you’ll be able to see with the Celestron Travelscope 70 is dependent on a variety of factors such as atmospheric conditions, light pollution levels, and your own personal viewing location. Generally, you can expect to observe bright and clear views of the moon’s craters, planets such as Jupiter and Saturn (including their moons), star clusters, and even some nebulae. I want to like the Celestron TravelScope 70, I really do. I have had fun with it. But I just can’t recommend it to beginners for astronomy. And though I’m not an expert on daytime spotting scopes, I’d probably advise against getting one for that purpose as well. It is a nice optic ruined by poor mechanical design and accessories, and unless you’re willing to spend more time and money replacing its accessories (or if you have them already lying about, as I do), I can not recommend it. The Celestron Travelscope 70 has an aperture of 70mm. This is a great size for a travel telescope, as it allows you to see many celestial objects while still being portable and easy to use. What is the magnification of the Celestron Travelscope 70? Firstly, the scope is a refractor type which means it can suffer from chromatic aberration, especially when used at higher magnifications. This can result in color fringing around bright objects such as the Moon or planets and may detract from the viewing experience for some astronomers.A compound or catadioptric telescope combines the best parts of reflective and refractive telescopes – it uses both mirrors and lenses for viewing. The two most common types of combination telescopes are the Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and the Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope. Emarth refractor telescopes have a 70mm aperture size, a 360mm focal length, and an f/5.1 focal ratio denoting its wide field of view. This telescope comes with a 25 mm and a 10mm eyepiece lens that allows 51x to 128x magnification. A 5x24v finder scope is attached to the side of the main scope tube to help you locate planets, stars, and moons more easily. The 20 mm eyepiece will do well for most purposes with its wider viewing, bright and sharp image resolution, and good power. It provides up to a max useful magnification of 140x but I found pushing it to 168x magnification that the manufacturer states will result in picture degradation. The Celestron NexStar 130SLT Computerized Telescope comes with a very large aperture and good eyepieces. It’s great for photography, though its need for collimation hurts its value. Fifth place belongs to the Celestron 114LCM Computerized Telescope, which has a very large aperture and two eyepieces but suffers from poor power efficiency and a shaky mount. Sixth place is taken by the Celestron 21061 AstroMaster 70AZ Refractor Telescope, which provides a smooth position and easy setup but loses value because of its shaky tripod and smaller size.
