This ranks as our favorite Catholic children’s Bible. Although its title implies that it is a collection of Bible stories, I find this to be a much more thorough and complete presentation of Scripture than other smaller collections of Bible stories (see more on those below). My family voted The Tiny Truths Bible as not the best in any way. I don’t recommend this bible. Catholic Picture Bible The girls all said they liked this bible better than The Action Bible because the pictures were brighter, yet my daughter that hates comics said she still wouldn’t read it. I am continually impressed with what Magnificat is putting out for children. This Bible is another thorough presentation of the Old and New Testaments. Because this book is written by a Catholic author, you don’t have to worry about the perspective that the stories are told from.

With a blue ribbon marker and multi-coloured endpapers, this is a Bible that children will be drawn to and will treasure throughout their journey of faith.It is long and includes a lot of bible stories that typical children’s bibles don’t include, which is nice. In the narrative on the crucifixion, the author is clearly presenting the teaching of penal substitution. This is the belief that God’s wrath was poured out upon Jesus during His Passion and Death. That God the Father took all His fiery anger and directed it at Jesus. This belief is not the only view even among Protestants about the atonement, but is particularly common in Calvinistic circles. This is not the teaching of the Catholic Church. The stories are short- good for little kids. I often used this bible to read stories to my preschool class because their attention span was short. It was a good way to introduce the bible story to them.

A children’s bible that you are reading to your kids might be a different one that you would choose than one they are going to read for themselves. A younger child may need one version and an older child another. So definitely take your own children’s interests and personalities into account when choosing your children’s bible. If you have the ability to buy piles of beautiful christian picture books for your family, that is amazing, but I have been in so many places in life where that is not an option for me. Also, while some books can be found at the library, a lot of the more specialized books cannot.
