The plates were patterned plates that a kid put together to form a fashionable outfit, and then colored over with paper and colored pencils. The new Fashion Plates® design set makes it easy and fun for aspiring designers to create their own fabulous fashion designs.

This method of disseminating fashionable styles was mostly popular during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Prior to the French Revolution, fashion plates were rare, and usually small black and white illustrations in annual diaries, known as pocket-books. I picked up both of these sets at Goodwill a few years ago and it was truly a fortunate find as both sets are complete and in very good condition. I waited until my daughters were old enough to appreciate the fact that I let them use my childhood toys and kept them as well as I did. It's about time the fun of etched plate art has opened up to the wider world of the non-fashion-conscious!
