I measured the torch’s CRI or colour accuracy at 74, slightly better than its spec’d 70 but still way off many torches on the market with a CRI of well above 90. I’m yet to see a torch from Olight with a high CRI. The higher the CRI or Colour Rendering Index the more accurately you’ll see colour with sunlight having a CRI of 100 for perfectly faithful colour reproduction. It’s an indicating switch, as I said above, too. It can indicate in green (seen below) and red. (And maybe orange, sometimes it’s faint enough to be hard to say for certain.) Predecessors of the Baton 3 Pro have had different side switches. But compared to the Olight S2R Baton II, the side switch of Baton 3 Pro is 56% times larger. Want more time to run the light? Drop down to level three, or 120 lumens, and the light runs for an impressive 23 hours. For most close-in work, I found that level three is very suitable. Upgraded Proximity Sensor: The optimized optical system allows the hidden proximity sensor to protect you without being oversensitive or affecting the light's beam pattern, and you can also disable the sensor temporarily or permanently.

As can be seen from the above, Baton 3 Pro is superior to Baton 3 and S2R Baton II in lighting brightness, beam range and running time, and the original price difference between the three products is not much (now during O-Fan Day, the price of Baton 3 is reduced by 30%). Taken together, it is clear that the Baton 3 Pro is more cost-effective. You can see how Olight spec its other brightness modes and runtimes below. I did test the fully regulated 300 lumen mode in my lumen chamber and got just over 8 hours at the full 300 lumens before it turned off – no quite the full 11 hours Olight spec but still pretty good. Runtimes (source: Olight manual) As always, my recommendation is to buy the Baton 3 Pro from the official Olight store. Here’s the link you want to follow. I’m very pleased to now see USB-C charging support, but I would have preferred it on the torch or battery itself. And I think for the price Olight could have included a magnetic charging cable as well – it’s still one of the most convenient methods of charging a torch I’ve tried.

As far as I can tell, this user interface is the same as previous Batons – the S2R Baton II, for example. Here’s really the main issue with this emitter. It’s green. This is more noticeable in the low modes. In the highest couple of levels, it’s trending toward “ok”, but the positive Duv on the lower modes is not something I look for in an emitter. This was one area of improvement I even pinpointed in a Baton 3 review. So, it’s nice to see how Olight continues to serve the customers’ needs very well.

What I’d change

In this version of the Olight Baton 3 Pro flashlight is probably a Luminus SST-40 emitter, just like we saw on the S2R Baton II. But Olight doesn’t say. Either way, that emitter is coupled with a TIR and provides a very pleasantbeam profile.

I don’t tend to use holsters, so it’s still something else that is completely proprietary, just like the magnetic cable, that you need to have with you to charge the torch. You can’t charge the proprietary batteries in a standard battery charger – the positive terminal is recessed. Charging with the XTAR SC1 Plus (with a the help of a small magnet in the recessed positive terminal) The Baton 3 I own once lasted for 2 weeks. So, when I heard Baton 3 Pro was coming, I expected at least a month. How long do you think a full battery of Baton 3 Pro is supposed to last? I’ve used the device for seven days and tested everything it had to offer and the light in the battery indicator is still green. I’m still in awe! I told you there were 12 operational modes, the same 6 operations modes under two different color temperatures. Turbo: 1500 lumens; 2 minutes run-time ~ 600 lumens; 2 hour, 57 minutes run-time; 175 m beam range*

Hardware specs

Like all Olight torches I’ve tested, it feels well made and comes with an IPX8 waterproof rating and is 1.5m drop resistant. It’s constructed almost entirely of aluminium, with a comfortable rubber grip that wraps around the body of the torch. I like the sealed nature of the Olight Baton 3 charging system. I’ll have to remember the cable if I take the Baton 3 on travel. Some might like the universality of a USB-C port on a flashlight or built into the battery. I’m not often a cable loser, so the Olight system is ok with me. You can see how its beam compares to the Olight Baton 3 Pro Max, the Thrunite T2 and the Seeker 3 Pro below. All these torches run off a 21700 battery. In use I really couldn’t see any difference between the Seeker 3 Pro and this new model. Conclusions The Baton 3 Pro Torch is an updated version of theS2R Baton IIwith 350 lumens more than the S2R Baton II and is the first Olight with a hidden light sensor. Other features such as the design of the body, the colour and the colour temperature of the light source have been greatly improved. As you can see, although the Baton Pro is 500 lumens brighter than the Baton 3 Pro, its throw distance is 43m lower than the Baton 3 Pro, and it is more expensive.

I’d think twice before using the Olight Baton 3 Pro flashlight or most strobing flashlights as a breakdown warning light on the highway, or as a bicycle headlight strobe. A rapid frequency strobe is at a minimum, distracting and irritating, but could be seizure-inducing in some individuals. And I know strobe is sometimes marketed as a weapon but I hope you’ll reconsider that perspective. If the Baton 3 had a slower frequency strobe I’d use it on my bike. But it would work well as an ‘always on’ bike light. Just like the Seeker 3 Pro it comes with a proprietary 21700 5000mAh battery installed. It would have been nice to see an upgraded version of this battery with extra capacity. The torch is pretty much exactly the same size as the Seeker 3 Pro – 133mm (5.24”) long with a 35mm (1.38in) diameter bezel. The body is a little narrower but this is quite a chunky 21700 torch. Seeker 4 Pro (left), Baton 3 Pro Max (right) The Seeker 4 Pro is another floody torch from Olight. Although with its high brightness it still has a very respectable range of 260m (16,895cd) – a little up on the Seeker 3 Pro’s 250m. Concave Design: The button on the Baton 3 Proisrecessed, which helpus to avoid wasting power by squeezing or touching the torch while carrying it. The Olight Baton 3 Pro rechargeable flashlight has an e-switch on the head end of the side of the body. The switch cover has a bit of texture and is proud enough that it’s easy to find. It’s also not so proud or soft that it will easily activate accidentally.Brighter & More Powerful: Powered by a 5000mAh battery, it delivers a max. output of 2,500 lumens and a max. runtime of 60 days, providing you with enough light for any activity. The rest of the light is fairly standard. Batons are great! I’m a massive fan of Batons. This one is good, too, and I’m super pleased to be able to have neutral white.
