Flushing clears debris build-up on the membrane, and is critical to obtaining peak performance from the RO unit. After flushing filtered water production will begin. You are correct, you would want to remove the ASO from the RO unit. It will cause problems with the smart buddie if left installed.The high pressure switch turns off the booster pump if the filtered water pressure is greater than 33.35 PSI, prolonging the life of the pump. What is the difference between a booster and a permeate pump?

I noticed that by restricting the waste line output that outputs from the Smart Buddie, the pressure increases dramatically (as does the rate of clean water produced, ~13 mins to fill a 1 gal milk jug, and up to 4 bar (60 psi). I have additionally made sure that both RO membranes are deeply seated, and within the Smart Buddie manual, I am basically using Configuration G. Hi @AquaticLifeProducts , I was wondering if you could kindly advise. I have a working Smart Buddie with BRS 7 Stage RODI unit, which features 2 RO membranes in series ("staging configuration.") This worked very very for one year, and the Smart Buddie is fantastic. It was able to get a the pair of 75 GPD RO membranes to 5 bar (70 psi). However, after replacing the membranes with 150 GDP, the pressure measured just following the output of the second membrane, the pressure dropped to 2 bar (30 psi).

You can choose to not use the waste water outlets on the Smart Buddie if you would like or in one case I had a customer split the waste line into two, one to the 300 CC of the Smart Buddie and a second to a 450 CC inline flow restrictor. This allowed them to keep the higher waste water ratio. Most of the times we have customers wanting to lower the waste water output, so the smaller combination valve was used. TUBING & ELBOWS INCLUDED – Six low-profile 90 degree elbows are included to simplify plumbing and also allow connection to the AquaticLife Twist-In RO/DI units. Blue, Yellow and Red tubing is included for convenient installation. So if you used your auto top off with a timer and only for a short period of time once per day you would produce a single long production of RODI water and not have the unit turning on and off multiple times per day. Or if you put the Smart Buddie on a timer you would be able to have the unit flush like you want each time and only produce once per day for a longer run and have the auto top off stop the Smart Buddie when full. I also noticed that the Bird Buddy doesn’t get every bird that comes to the feeder. I happened to look out one morning and saw both a male and a female Cardinal eating seeds at the same time, but the Bird Buddy never recorded it. Low pressure switch turns off the booster pump if water pressure is less than 7.25 PSI, extending the life of the pump.

I'm not sure there is a pro or con to either way. I think it has more to do with the TDS creep across the membrane and how often its turned on and off through out the day. I have found that the RODI unit will have the initially higher than normal reading after each start up regardless if flushed or not. What I do is actually limit my production to longer batches. So I either use a timer to turn the unit on and off a single time per day or I use a count down timer to operate the unit with a specified duration.

The system relies on pressure to push the water through the membrane. Without enough of this push, the output of the system will suffer. The amount of waste water will increase while the permeate will decrease. What is the difference between a booster and a permeate pump?

My question is: Is this configuration of using a flow restrictor on the waste line to drain, after the Smart Buddie, an appropriate configuration? The 300 CC flow restrictors have been used since the beginning with the booster. If you have really high TDS its possible to foul the membranes, we have not had any problems. The 300 CC combination valve is a combination of the flow restrictor and a auto flush valve. The valve will open when first powered on or after approximately 24 hours of operation.
