Butter is a unique look at bullying, particularly online bullying, because mocking the obese seems to be one of the last acceptable forms of bullying that we condone in society. I didn't dislike Butter for his inability to overcome his weight issue; I disliked how he handled his issue through his dangerous and reckless actions. Since, really, the history of butter is rather short (she doesn't go into using it on burns, or using it on green cheese to form a rind), she spends time discussing the power of butter in food, the continuing debate over whether margarine or butter is an actual culprit in heart disease, and includes a number of recipes at the end that are some of the most common and delectable uses for butter. With each meal she eats, something is awakening in her body, might she and Kaji have more in common than she once thought?

One particular chapter that I enjoyed, apart from the one on modern artisan butter, is the chapter entitled “sacred and spiritual”.If you’re eaten butter or you like butter or you’re just into food history, you’ll want to pick this book up. I related to him a lot and liked that he wasn’t entirely worthy of me feeling sorry for him; I did feel sorry for him, because his situation at school sucked, but he also had a bad mindset about it. Desde luego, sería despreciable que los nuevos amigos de Butter solo hubieran decidido relacionarse con él para disfrutar del morboso enigma de no saber si acabará suicidándose.

In fact, I'm going to have to change my rating from 3 stars to 1, because there's no excuse for the lack of knowledge. In fact, that was probably one of the strengths of the story -- Butter wants Anna to accept him as who he is. I can tell you from my mother's experience that if you become hypoglycemic while driving, you will wreck your car.I waffled about requesting this (sorry) (no, I'm not – I'm just trying not to make culinary puns all throughout), but I went ahead hoping for some fascinating details about how butter was invented/discovered, and how it has impacted history, and all the hows and whys and wherefores of it. And Butter (the book, not the main character) starts out as this screaming shout out to anyone who knows about feederism. We see the animals which are milked - cattle, sheep, horses, goats, camels, buffalo, yak, reindeer and water buffalo. But he never goes to the nurse before lunch to get that checked, or to take insulin before binging on his lunch. They definitely mistreat him, but at the same time, they're sort of necessary for Butter's development in a way he doesn't always understand.

With sharp observation, wit and poignancy, Jones explores complex identities and unorthodox longings. I'm still getting into non-fic (read: figuring out what I like) and I only have a slight interest in food science/food history through watching Adam Ragusea's YouTube videos (which is how I found out about this). I was especially interested in reading about the cultural history of butter in terms of its economics and gender roles. It can be anyone you trust: a teacher, a parent, a summer counselor, a coworker, a friend, a sibling, or another loved one.
